Rubbing alcohol to stretch shoes???

So I was told to rub rubbing alcohol inside your shoe, put on thick socks, walk around for like 20 minutes and your shoe will stretch. Has anyone ever done this? If so, are there any negative consequences? I just didn't want to blindly try it...

Thanks

Re: Rubbing alcohol to stretch shoes???

  • Yep, this will work with leather shoes.  Saturate the inside with alcohol and then wear them until dry.  They won't stretch a ton, but if you just need a little stretch, it might do the trick.  They also sell shoe stretch solution, but that's basically just rubbing alcohol.

  • Test the leather on the color to make sure that it doesn't discolor. I ruined a pair of Louboutins doing this. They were chocolate brown, but ended up with dark brown brings where the alcohol soaked through. I had to take them to the cobbler to be redyed.

The stretch spray has alcohol and a color safeness chemical in it.
