For my D&R post of the week, s/o blinds

I need some cheap blinds. 1" white vinyl. For a 52" window.

The cheapest they have at Lowes was $34 and I really don't want to spend $34 on one blind for a house I don't plan on being in too much longer. (The other windows we replaced blinds in were $4.46 from Lowes.)

Any suggestions? I think the brand we bought (Blindz To Go or something like that) discontinued this one size.

Am I boned? Do I have to spend $34 on one set of blinds? (I have to replace two storm doors, a pair of sliding closet doors, a computer in the garage door opener, the carpet in the entire house, plus repaint the interior doors and do something about refinishing the tub still.)

Re: For my D&R post of the week, s/o blinds

  • is this to sell the house or part of the inspection settlement?

If it is to sell the house, $34 seems like not much esp in light of all the other costs. 52" is pretty wide, I would be surprised if you could find cheaper but I'm not too sure, sorry....

  • Could you hang 2 sets of smaller blinds in the space? I've seen that before, I guess because wider blinds have a tendency to bow in the middle.

It's to sell, but I'm looking at barely breaking even at this point (on top of the rest of the stuff I need). They used to sell the same brand in that size (for like half the price) but they don't have it at Lowes anymore. Of course.

  • Have you tried Wal-Mart or Target?  I know Wal-Mart had mini-blinds but it's been about 5 years since I've needed to purchase any, so I don't know if they would have that size or if they even still carry them.  I just know they were cheap.  LOL.
  • One more thought -- do you need blinds on this window?  If you have a decent view, maybe you could just not do any blinds and let the light shine in during your showings.

Ditto this. When we were buying, I honestly don't think I even noticed whether or not a house had blinds. I kind of figured we'd end up buying whatever window treatments we wanted.

Also, many sets of our friends have bought homes that came with blinds and replaced the old blinds with new when they purchased because the existing ones weren't the style or color they wanted. I probably wouldn't spend the money unless you receive comments specifically about the lack of blinds during the showings.

Well, it's my bedroom. And it's facing the (fairly busy) street.. So yes lol. I'm only replacing them because they're broken off on one side (toddlers are destructive on stuff when firetrucks are involved) and they're not the same color as the others (which were replaced because our new windows were slightly bigger).

  • Gotcha, I can see replacing them in the bedroom.

PS- I haven't been on in forever, so congrats on #2!
