Where do I begin

We finally found a family to take the play structure out of our backyard after a year of living in our home.  Now we are concerned about regrading the back yard.  Where the play set stood, it's about 1 foot higher than the back of our house.  There is already evidence of an old repair done in the basement from water damage and we don't want to have it happen again.

We would like to save some money and do it ourselves but really have no clue where to start.  WWGL do?

I would talk to experts, like maybe a structural engineer. Unless you're an expert in this stuff, it isn't something I'd consider DIY. I wouldn't cut corners here. Problems with water seepage in your foundation could cost more to fix than you paid for your house.
