Do you think...
dogs can judge someone's character? I feel like they can by watching how quickly my GSD will warm up to some people as opposed to others. I guess I'm just curious what other people think. Am I just a crazy nut? Is there another reason for this that I am not aware of?

ETA: Yes, to some extent I think dog's can tell certain things about a person's character. Whether it's been proved, I don't know, but if my dog doesn't like you, I don't either.
I have known dogs who liked asses. and who didn't like nice people.
But I'm willing to give my dog the benefit of the doubt--just like other important folks in my life. (if the Mr. dislikes someone, it gives me pause...if my dad dislikes someone, it gives me pause. If Dawg ever finds someone she dislikes [hasn't happened yet], it'll give me pause)
(although if La DOof Kitton dislikes someone and tries to eat them it probably means they're a decent person and La Doof Kitton is trying to take him/her down as a way oof promoting his evil agenda to take over the world. so La Doof Kitton's hatred is probably a sign that someone can be trusted.)
My mom's dog is terrified of my uncle for reasons we do not understand. This is heartbreaking to my uncle who loves dogs. She is the only dog who doesn't like him. I don't think it really means much.

To a point. I think if they were a "bad guy" and trying to hurt me our dogs would know and go into "protect" mode.
Otherwise, Jasper wants to be everyone's best friend whether it's my mom, the neighbor kid, or a drug dealer.
Dang, GSD tends to not like SIL's boyfriends (which are typically shady people that the family doesn't like or approve of) so I was hoping she was actually judging them lol.
