Let's talk Restoration Hardware
I've been meaning to ask you guys if you got Restoration Hardware's doorstop (e.g., 400-page catalogue) in the mail, and if so what you thought. I was giving a major side-eye to these "deconstructed" (i.e., looks like they've been gnawed by rats) chairs.

I thought some of their stuff was cool in a steampunk-y way, but not really feasible for 99.99999% of places. I would love this chandelier in my imaginary steampunk mansion, though.

Or these birdcage ones:

Re: Let's talk Restoration Hardware
I could get the exact same chair for a lot less by buying one off Craigslist and letting my cat have at it.
I love that first chandelier though.
They are definitely going in more of a steampunk direction now, hey? It's nice they are trying to be more unique but its' less my style than the traditional RH.
It would have meant a lot less effort to keep the cat from scratching our wing backs if I had just gotten that one...
I didn't get the huge catalog - maybe b/c I only browse and haven't ever bought so they only send the small books.
First, I thought it was funny that I got the baby and child catalog and not the main book.. (funny because I'm gay, and my partner and I do not have any plans on adopting a child, other than the furry one we have... see pic below.)
Hate the deconstructed chairs. I saw them in person and just don't like them
I do really like a lot of the other pieces they have. Their focus on the smaller scale is great. I love the reclaimed and iron pieces.
I can't wait for their new Boston store to open.
Yes, I got it - holyhell that thing is not just huge, but 3 volumes big!
Soooooooooo...apparently my VP knows the guy that started RH, but didn't realize it until his wife clued him in on it so I got NO dirt on what the hell they are trying to do with the company. I put him on the job for the next time he sees him
I was mostly surprised that they sent me the 650 pg
catalogue when I've spent like $200 there total, lol. I also got the separate outdoor one and the baby and child one. It's an...interesting...marketing tactic, and expensive I'm sure.
I do like a lot of their more classic things and if money was no object, sure! A lot of their things seem very masculine, so I'm wondering if they are trying to market to guys with a lot of it since most home stores seem to cater to women.
With that chair they seem to have forgotten the "restoration" in the name of their store. WTH would anyone pay for that, much less the amount they are asking for it.
I really used to like their style. This is totally not doing it for me.

Ha, I bought two outdoor pillows on clearance, so I've probably spent about $40 total there! I'm sure they'll cut me off soon.
I have literally never spent a dime at RH and I got the main catalog and the outdoor one. I barely glanced through it; I won't spend that kind of money on stuff. that chair is fug.
We do order a lot through other catalogs though (my husband gets a huge discount on Ballard, Grandin Rd and Frontgate through work) so maybe that's why it came? He works in retail product fulfillment and we were both shocked at how much money it must take to produce and send out that catalog.
I commented to DH upon receiving the monstrosity that I felt bad for our mailman who walks his route and hoped that he didn't have a lot of homes who were customers (but I bet he did)
I don't like RH anymore since they changed styles. Everything is so dark and gloomy to me now. I flicked through the catalog and didn't see any color. A little blue but that was it!!!
And the chair is ugly!!!
