PIP: What could I have done to make the picture "less yellow"?

We were at my friend's house last night, and her foreign exchange student's family was visiting from Spain. Her mother is an excellent cook, and she made this specific dish.

It was placed on the island, and I took a picture- but I hate how "yellow" it came out.

What could I have done to improve the picture/appear less yellow-ish?

eta: I forgot to add the pic... sorry!

  • Adjust your white balance. Usually lights in a house make things appear more yellow than they seem.
  • Am I crazy or is there no picture in this post?

Can you explain what adjusting white balance means? Or, how I can do this?

  • ditto joeysgirl.  the lighting caused it.  some cameras have built in white balance settings for different lighting situations (fluorescent lights, tungsten lights, daylight, cloudy, etc).  Even fancier cameras will let you manually set a custom white balance for your particular lighting situation.  You would do that by following the camera instructions for setting white balance and metering on a white card or white surface.  Alternately, if you've already taken the photo, adjustments can be made in some photo editing software packages.  What software do you use to edit photos?

Not crazy, it wasn't there for awhile. She must have realized and inserted it after.

I just got Photoshop and am still learning how to use it. Never knew it was so complicated!

  • There's a million ways to do everything in photoshop.  you can do image/adjustments/auto color to let PS do it for you (I rarely like the results of the auto tools).  I would do Layer/new adjustment layer/ color balance and slide the bars around until you like how it looks.
