We are the Champions, my friends......
and we'll keep on fighting (burning couches) til the end.....
I am so dang tired this morning. damn eastern time. one of my coworkers brought me in breakfast-which was nice because she is a Cards fan.
Anyway, congrats to all. It was well fought. Who won the pool? Wasn't me.
Re: We are the Champions, my friends......
How long until this is Memphis 2.0? Or UMass 3.0?
But I don't think the NCAA will vacate a championship because it would look so bad. And Calipari may not have cheated this time.
HA!
Ok. Can someone explain the couch fire thing to me? Why is this a victory tradition?

*waits patiently for answer*
no one knows.
You know, we're tight you and me Kitty. But damned if I know what the crap you are talking about.
True, he may not have...but he probably did. Given his history, I can't believe that he isn't pulling some shenanigans at UK too-he's just being a LOT more careful.
i'm too tired to know what the crap i'm talking about. but basketball is basically the gist.
I won! ETA: the pool, that is.
UMass and Memphis were purely coincidental. Coach Cal was never implicated in either scandal. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
Oh, and according to Bruce Pearl (former UT coach), all top coaches cheat, or fail to follow NCAA rules to the letter, to some extent. Some are just a whole lot better at covering their @sses.
Couch burning? I think they are just the easiest thing to make a big fire out of, and old couches are plentiful, especially in college campuses.
I have a few things to say, and you'll have to excuse the euphoria that is seeping through my pores.
- 20 years after the Unforgettables were denied a chance at a championship run by the shot that broke my heart (and is my earliest basketball memory), the WILDCATS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AGAIN!!!!!! It helps dull the pain a bit, which leads me to:
- This tournament was a fun one - beating so many rivals along the way to make it to this point made it special and fun. As a born and bred Louisville girl, my family and friends are split between IU/UofL/UK fans. It's been something to beat those teams to make this championship possible.
- Like I said - euphoria - I don't think this will be vacated. Not because the NCAA won't do it, but because I think that Coach Cal knows some hillbilly from the holler would take him out if he pulled UMass or Memphis 2.0. In fact, I am sure this is what the boosters said to him before he took the job. The folks in the hollers take their Wildcats seriously.
So I am choosing to believe UK is as on the up and up as any other team.
- Coach Cal, that sleazy bastard, has wormed his way into my heart. Not like Tubby (who will always be my favorite - I was devastated when he left, even though I knew he was going to be forced out), but he's in there.
- And I will deny this if you ever bring it up, but I am scheduling my brow wax today. I've been putting it off out of superstition throughout this whole tournament.
Coming from a guy who got busted for failing to follow the rules doesn't exactly give me warm fuzzies
CONGRATULATIONS, KENTUCKY AND KENTUCKY FANS!
I hope this has cemented my team's status as second fiddle and little brother in the great commonwealth of Kentucky.
C-A-T-S, CATS CATS CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...sex with me only lasts about six seconds...
I AM RICK PITINO!!!
Hey, Eclaires-up for a celebratory dinner at Porcini's?
Hear hear!
I watched the game at a crowded bar (NOT by campus) and was so glad I did. The atmosphere was amazing. There was this sweet old couple who were high-fiving each other and the man was trying to take pictures with his cell phone. So cute. After the game, my friend went and had her picture taken with them and gave hugs.
It was a fun night.
Only if it includes some fabulous 6 second sex.
PS - funny story from Saturday's game - my dad told my mom she was a traitor b/c she said she didn't care who won since her daughter/son/grandkids are huge UK fans. My mom/dad/other brother are the Louisville fans, lol. Apparently my mom has been kicked out of their group b/c her cute grandkids turned her UK (or at least UK sympathetic).
also, I text taunted my dad throughout the entire game w/ pics of the kids in their UK gear, lol.
If it is vacated, I will die a happy woman.
Signed,
Memphis Alumna & Fan Who Wants a Trip to Lexington to TP Cal's House.
