I didn't have to show my ID to vote today
But I had to sign a book. I don't remember having to sign a book pre-voter ID law. So confusing!
Bonus: I was super excited to be the 69th voter in my ward. Because, you know, I'm mature like that.

That just seems really strange to me.
Up here, you need photo ID. No exceptions. Its been that way as long as i can possibly remember, and I agree with that.
However, I think the barriers are lower to GETTING photo ID here and I would perhaps feel differently if we had large components of our population without it.
I also did not need my ID and am also in WI. I also signed a book, but that is what I recalled doing previous to the law, so I don't think it changed in my ward at all from previously.
Personally, I don't care one way or the other, I always have my liscence on me, but I realize some people can't afford to get one. I think the easiest solution is to give free ID cards taht can be used for voting to any citizen that wants one:)

This isn't a ward-by-ward thing. If you'd voted in the February non-partisan primary, you would've had to show photo ID. That was the first time I'd ever had to. But further application of the law has been suspended due to a court injunction.
I just didn't recall signing the book the previous times I'd voted, but maybe I did and forgot.
I have always had to sign a book, in a box next to my name and address. This is how my parents busted me one year for not voting, since their names were right next to mine in the book. I think I was 19 and they totally reamed me for it. Haven't missed an election since!
I'm pretty sure I have to sign a book everytime I vote. Can't remember how it worked in NYC.
How does voter id work with mail-in ballots? Is it assumed that since the ballot is being mailed to the voter that they are the person filing it out. Do we not care about these ballots since they rarely make any difference?
