Great Dane
I'm looking into adopting my coworkers Great Dane. He is about 3 years old. I have been reading they don't have a long life span. Would you worry about this?

If properly taken care of, giant breed dogs can live anywhere from 8-12 or 13 years. And maybe longer. Quality food, keeping weight off and regular exercise (mental and physical) are all a key part of taking care of your pup.
I adopted an older saint bernard at about 4 years (They told me she was estimated to be a year old, wrong) and had 4 good quality years with her although she was in constant bad health. I wouldn't have changed it, even though the time was so short lived and it was heartbreaking when I lost her.

I would also be concerned about why your CW is getting rid of his dog, and I would worry that if it's due to health issues, behavioral problems, etc., your CW might not be honest about it with you. I would ask to see his vet records and any records of where your CW got him (breeder, rescue, shelter, etc.) - this would help assess the dog's health and would show whether the contract your CW signed requires him to return the dog to the breeder/rescue if he can't keep the dog. Overall, I would be more comfortable adopting from a shelter/rescue or going through a reputable breeder, but that's my personal feeling.
I would not let the risk of losing them affect my decision to adopt. I would let it affect the way I took care of them so I could make sure to provide a good quality of life for as long as possible.
