The next best thing to having a Fabric.com storefront...
is living in the same town. Ordered late last night, shipped this morning and delivery expected tomorrow
You know though, it is probably a very good thing they don't have a storefront. I'd be broke!!!
I am thinking about making a trip down to Whipstitch fabrics this week though

It would be awesome! Of course, I'd be living on the streets after spending all my money on fabric

The fat quarter shop is in my backyard, and I generally find it frustrating that I can't just go and browse. I have only bought fabric over the internet 1 or 2 times -- I need to feel fabric up before I can take fabric home to live with me... I don't like blind dates!

I am too, it takes at least a week and we're only a couple hundred miles away.
Stand up for something you believe in.
I made a run down to in town quilters last week & bought ~12 yds that I have no real plan for. I just couldn't resist... this after buying ~20 yds a few days before for MIL to make me a quilt.
I was lamenting with DH that north fulton NEEEEEEDS a LQS b/c the east cobb LQSs are all skewed towards older tastes, and all of the younger/hipper LQS are all annoyingly hard to get to. There's a storefront for rent right by my house that would be fantastic, but sadly I don't have the capital (or know-how) to start my own store.
What are some of the hipper/younger ones? I might need to explore
I tend to stop by Tiny Stitches most often because they carry a lot of the Moda lines and it isn't too far from where I live.
I'm about to start boycotting Joanns and Hancock. They never seem to have what I need anymore--like dotted swiss...how hard is that? Oh, and a nice seersucker. Really? This is the SOUTH for crying out loud. Seersucker is a southern staple! And eyelet...can you tell the three things I went searching for this week was a big fat BUST! Hobby Lobby is useless too.
If you start a shop, I promise to be your #1 customer!! I'm dying here!!

I count whipstitch as younger/hipper there is a lot of new designer stuff & not so much of this (totally nms)->
In town quilters is hip/youngish too, I just hate driving there. They have a decent selection of designers, but they don't usually get the color ways that I really want. (I was looking for aviary 2 & they didn't have the print I wanted in granite...I comforted myself in the sale area.)
I also went to tiny stitches last week in search of fabric for the quilt MIL is making & I only got one fq. I think they had a few good things, but it was hard for me to pick what I liked out of the sea of stuff I didn't. (& MIL kept picking up batiks & saying "what about THIS?")
do you go to "little quilts" ? it's also in east cobb & that is where we found the majority of what we ended up buying for the quilt. I was a little worried at first based on their website, but I think they had a decent combination of stuff I like & what MIL would like. (& the two 'styles' are separated into different rooms)
I went looking for 12mm plastic eyes yesterday @ joann's & they had brown w/ a black pupil, but no solid black. The girl was like, "uh.. yea, we're not ordering those anymore". :-/ why bother having doll parts at all if you're not going to stock THE PEGS YOU HAVE LABELED?!
I haven't been to Little Quilts in a LONG time. I need to stop back buy. Red Hen fabrics is an old lady store too--and I hate the way they sort their stuff. They break up all lines into color so if you go looking for a Moda line, good luck. If they even have it, it will be spread out all over the place. I did find LA's dust ruffle fabric there though.
What I want is a good "all fabrics" style store. Great quilting cottons, some apparel fabrics (like lawn, poplin, etc.). I hate buying online, but that is what it is coming down to.
And what about those eyes??? Seriously? You'd think black would be a staple item.

oh, I totally agree about wanting it to be all in one spot. it drives me crazy trying to track down a line I'm interested in.
There's a store in portland (fabric depot) that is like utopia, i think they had almost every fabric imaginable. I spent hours in there (while DH waited outside, lol) & still didn't see it all. they have a decent online store too. It's too bad fabric.com doesn't want to follow in their footsteps & open up a store front.
