To add to the WTF Tuesday

One of my sales reps is being promoted to Assistant Manager at another one of our sites, so we're hiring a new SR to replace her.

The resumes we're getting are ridiculous. But the salaries they're asking for is laughable! With sales commissions, my reps make somewhere around $33-35k with experience. I only make a little over $33k as AM because I only do backup sales when they're not available.

The resumes we're getting 1) the people don't even have any experience in our industry, and 2) are asking for minimum $39-45k! MINIMUM!

Has no one heard we're in a recession?!?

Re: To add to the WTF Tuesday

  • I live in a reasonably HCOL area and even think that's pretty ridiculous!

  • I think it is probably just a ridiculous case of people not doing their research to know industry standards.
"You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness."
  • Honestly that doesn't sound that high to me, but I don't know your industry. I couldn't support myself comfortably on under 40k a year. Does your ad give the range and these people are asking above it? In that case I'll give it a major WTF. Otherwise people can ask for what they want. At least they aren't wasting your time with the interview process right?
  • Less than $40k for full time work seems really low to me if you're requiring experience. But I am sure it depends on area/industry.

  • Re-reading this, I'm not sure the industry, but on my first read, I thought it was for salespeople at like a retail store.

Oooh...in that case then yes 39k-40k seems very high.

  • I think that is very low...what are you guys selling?
  • It's not retail, but we sell a high end specialty item. (Sorry, I try not to give too many personal details on the webz.)

We're in the midwest, so salaries are lower. Just to give an example, i just checked the average salary on the internet for this job in Seattle, and it gave the pay ranges as $49-55k. Here, it was $23-27k. My reps make around $33ish, because our company is one of the better paying ones in this city.

Anyone can do a quick search to find out the pay ranges of these jobs in our area if they're not familiar with the industry. It's all pretty standard, and easy to find. I don't know if they're expecting to make a lot more sales commission and bonuses  than what's realistic or what.
