What color would you paint this accent wall?

I would want to stay neutral (will replace light fixture). Do you think it would look good painted chocolate brown or a nice wall paper? Image and video hosting by TinyPic" alt="" border="" hspace="" vspace="" width="" height="" align="" title="undefined" onmouseover="undefined" onmouseout="undefined" />

Re: What color would you paint this accent wall?

  • I wouldn't make it an accent wall. I don't mind them, but this room doesn't really warrant one.

Are you keeping the color of the rest of the walls?

  • I don't particularly like the white cabinets, but I do like something behind the cabinets to break up the white. I am open to painting the whole kitchen but it seemed like it would be too much all in one color. I am also open to changing the living room.
  • What about a pretty green in the whole kitchen?  I love green in the kitchen.  Maybe Tate Olive by Behr?

LOL, I read this as tata olive and I was all "what does olive have to do with tatas?"  me = 12 year old boy

But back to the topic at hand - OP, I'd just get rid of it as an accent wall too.  Paint the whole kitchen.  Accent walls have their place, but this kitchen just doesn't need it.  With that amount of light, I like the idea of a green or maybe a smoky blue-gray?  Someone here has a kitchen that is Pale Smoke by SW and I bookmarked the color:

  • I would paint it the same color as the rest of the room and then maybe add a colored glass subway tile for a backsplash if you want to break up the white. accent walls just aren't my thing.

  • I love the idea of tile, but we just can't afford it right now and paint is the cheaper option. I also really wanted to keep the walls neutral because I like to change just about everything but the majors for holidays/seasons (accent pillows, wall art, etc). I might be able to make a nice green work with this though. Basically all of the permanents are neutrals. I am getting a chocolate couch so that is why I was thinking chocolate accent wall/paint.

I went right there too! With the business of the cabinates, I would paint it a nuetral color the same color or the same tone of color as the other walls in the room and add a backsplash...I have seen (maybe on houzz or a home blog I cant remember) someone using a bit of interesting wallpaper as an inexpensive way to add a backsplash effect between the cabinates without it being overwhelming in the whole room. Might be an option in your situation.

I think with a dark brown couch, dark brown walls would be too much.  People on this board were (are?) in love with RH Silver Sage saying it goes with EVERYTHING.  It's a blueish greenish greyish beige.  Everyone says it's a neutral because it seems to match pretty much everything, and looks different in different light.  Here it is in a kitchen:
