I need some ideas for SIL (not just give her the cash). $25-$100. She will be a dental hygienist if that helps. I thought of a GC to a salon for massage/pedicure/haircut. Meh? We got her a GC to buy a nice interview outfit for Christmas. Maybe a GC to Aldo for some nice shoes? I have no idea.
Re: College Graduation Gift
I actuall really like your ideas. I remember just getting out of college having to look good for interviews but being too broke for that muchless doing anything fun for myself!
When I graduated 2 of my cousins did at the same time. We pooled our resources for a spa weekend and it was great!
Other thoughts:
Is she moving somewhere? Nicer house stuff/GC was great for me too. Still broke even with a job but I had a hella nice coffee pot and bathtowels..lol.
Otherwise, you have such good taste...get her some jewelry to commomerate the occassion!
That's what is hard. She doesn't have a job currently (hasn't had one in 2 years, because you know it's totally IMPOSSIBLE to work and go to school *eyeroll*), and lives with her Grandma, and doesn't plan on moving out until she has a job only related to her field. *sigh* I wanted to get her something useful, maybe something to help her get on with an adult life (she's almost 24). I dunno. She's an overall good person, just has a giant chip on her shoulder and a sense of entitlement. Maybe I should get her some nice home stuff to push her in the right direction as a hint to MOVE OUT!
Got it! There's one in every family..lol.
How about a nice purse or wallet? She'll have that for awhile. There are a lot of great options in the $50.00-$100.00 range.
Or yeah...buy her some move out stuff!
Other thoughts:
A an etsy sign with her name followed by Dental Hygenist? I got one made for H that says Mr. Dairy. D. Dairy and Dairyfarmer underneath it. It's on the office door. He got a kick out of that. She could hang it in her room now, save it for someday workspace whatever.
A netflix subscription. Not useeful but it's a fun treat.
I had a grad party after I graduated but mainly because I went to a way out of state school and no one could come other than my parents, FI, and grandfather.
Things that I loved:
*Money, GC's (Target, Visa, etc.)
*I got a super nice metal pen that has my initials engraved on it from my dads boss. It was really thoughtful.
*My Uncles ex-wife and their kids got me a caramel and chocolate covered apple that was decorated in my school colors. I ate maybe three bites of it but it was adorable and unique.
Things that I could have cared less about:
*Graduation themed gifts, the bear with the cap and gown, the momento box with "Congrats Grad" on it
*I got some horse themed house stuff, a platter, large bowl, and a few other things. Yes I graduated with an Equine degree, yes I love horses, no I don't want to decorate with them. Luckily mom loved them and put them in the tack room to catch things.
One thing that my cousin got that she didn't appreciate then but is thankful for now: my parents got her a gift certificate with a professional coach that revamped her resume, gave her a few cover letters, and interview coaching. She was going into an extremely competitive job market, right out of college, with minimal job experience. You could see when she saw what it was her face dropped, but a year later at christmas she thanked them again for it because she got a really awesome job and her boss had commented on how professional her resume, cover letter, and interview were.
If anyone is still checking this post, what about these "Brush" "Floss" earrings?
