Plantation Shutters. Is this weird?

I want to have PS's installed after we move to our new contruction house.   But I only want them on three sides of the house.   The back of the house will overlook the pool, so I want that more open with different treatments.  I'm not sure if that is odd or not?

Re: Plantation Shutters. Is this weird?

  • Not odd to me.  We back up to a creek, so on the main floor I don't have anything on the back windows.

  • Makes sense to me.  When we had a woody lot, we only had blinds on the bedrooms.

Btw, have you priced out shutters?  It was $700 per window when I got a quote last year.

I know it's a gross amount of money....the house isn't yet completed, so I haven't measured or anything, to get a quote.   I do have a couple of places to call but wanted to make sure I wasn't nuts not to do the back (which is mostly windows).  I have 4 windows that would need them.

  • I agree with all the PP's not weird at all and I love the look of PS's. The price can be terrible though! Hope you can find a good deal!
  • It's not weird, I only have them on one side of the house as well.

  • We actually did our whole house and I love it. Our neighbors did only the back of their house, which looks fine on the 1st floor since those rooms only have windows on the back wall, but in my opinion their master bedroom looks a little strange. They have plantation shutters on the long triple window overlooking their back yard, but standard blinds on the two windows that flank their bed. Looks weird from both inside and outside, IMO.

I think what you're describing sounds fine.

  • what kind of other window treatments are you thinking? i also wanted to do ps in our kitchen window and bumpout/sunroom but when i got a quote last year it was 4 gs. yikes! i couldn't bring myself to spend that on window treatments. i might just do our kitchen window though. just wondering what you are thinking of doing. i just have curtains up now, which works but i really love shutters. might just have to bite the bullet eventually.
  • @ beachbum... The back of the house has double french doors out to the patio and then 3 massive windows in the master that will all look out on our pool and the waterfall.  So I kind of want to preserve that view.  This is what I am thinking for the bedroom:

Our wall and ceiling colors: Wall color - Worldly Gray by Sherwin Williams.
Band/Ceiling - Swiss Coffee by Dunn Edwards

  • I think it would matter mostly that any particular room had the same window treatment.

I LOVE my plantation shutters. The previous owner put them up. They are actually really nice in the master because they block out light so well.

  • We have PS in one room only in our house, it is a room that faces the back. As long as the treatment is the same per room you are good. We had 5 windows done 2 years ago and it was $850 per window.
