Anyone buy pet food online & save money?

I've been trying to find a site online that offers a significant discount on dog or cat food - primarily TOTW dry varieties & Merrick cans for our boxer, and blue buffalo dry for the cats (although that may change soon, they're not big fans)....

I would think I would at least be able to find cans in a bulk case of some kind & save money, but the Merrick cans are actually MORE money on amazon than in my usual pet store.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone had a good go-to website! I know it's a long shot...but, moving from Purina to TOTW & Merrick, DH has given me a bit of grief about the cost...but, either way, Lucy loves the stuff so we're not switching to anything else for a while!

Re: Anyone buy pet food online & save money?

  • I've tried and tried but never been successful at this.  I had high hopes for Petfooddirect.com, but unless I could get free shipping (rare) it was more expensive than my local store. We also feed TOTW.  I hope someone else is able to be more helpful!
  • My local pet store will special order it for me (they don't normally carry it) so I get it at a bit more than they pay for it (a better rate than if I ordered it online.

I tried autoship on petfooddirect.com and once I factored in shipping it didn't make up for the 15% autoship discount.

I tried autoship on petfooddirect.com because of the 15% autoship discount, but they charged for shipping so that wiped out any discount.

  • I use petfooddirect and the petco website.  Petfooddirect usually has good prices and if you sign up for their online newsletter they email you 15% off coupons which negates the cost of shipping.  I have a petco card so I get points, which leads to $5 discounts, and they often have the food on sale as well as free shipping.  It is cheaper for me to order online with them than go into the store.

That said, I buy online mostly for convenience as the closest place that carried their food is 45 min away.

  • The only time I find that it's cheaper to buy online vs. a store is when I can find a groupon, usually $15 for $30 to use on a site.  Otherwise, I'm going to the store and hauling it home myself :)
  • Mrchewy.com .  if you spend $50 it's free shipping and add auto ship for 15% off.  I just cancel it after i put my order in.  TOTW is $40 after discount and I have no idea about Merrrick but if you add cans of it then it should bring your total to $50 for the free shipping.

I've been getting Orijen for them so i haven't had to worry about shipping but I'm going to try out TOTW since it's same quality for half the price.  If it works out then I'll just order 2 bags to get the free shipping.

  • The hubby and I actually use wag.com, which has a bunch of specialty foods and ships for free (on most orders). Our fur baby has a ton of allergies so this website helps us find exactly what we need, plus we save a ton of money and time. :-)

Oh and they offer coupons right on the website and then send envelopes for cutout/printed out coupons from home... then they apply it to your next order. Love this site!

    Enjoy!
