opinions on this rug?

For a gender-neutral nursery.  The tile floor and walls are light brown. The crib is white and the rest of the furniture is dark, chocolate brown.  So far I have white wall decals of safari animals to put above the crib.

I'm not in to cutsie but recognize that a nursery is for a kid, not adult, so I'm trying to balance my tastes with something child-appropriate.

Also, the blinds are white and I am debating whether to add any curtains at all.  And if so, what style, fabric?

TIA!!

Re: opinions on this rug?

  • sounds like everything is dark as it is
  • I think any animal pattern as girly.
  • I like where you're going with this room, but don't stop now.  What any monochromatic / tone-on-tone room needs is a pop of color.  Would you consider adding pale pink drapes & a name plaque for a girl, and the same in blue for a boy?
  • There's so much neutral, I'd add a rug with a pop of color, like a teal or fushia.

I certainly can add drapes with color.  We are not finding out the sex until birth.  So maybe we can add drapes in either a soft pink or soft blue after the baby is born, and match that color to the name we can put on the wall.  Plus a couple picture frames or something.

There are pale pink and light blue giraffe pattern rugs at Pottery Barn.  Perhaps those would work better than neutral on top of neutral.

  • I actually really like that rug with what you're describing. And it will appeal to a baby because they are attracted to high contrast and linear shapes.

  • i love gender neutral nurseries, and I like that rug, but i agree with pp who suggested a pop of color -- i also like the suggestion of color in the curtains -- you can do an orange, something warm to complement the other colors.  I like that the rug is thematic to the animal theme but also that it's stylish.  good luck and please do keep us posted with more pics!

I never thought of orange!  How about this curtain.  Color is "spice"

I could buy a valence and use the fabric to create matching photo frames or to make ribbon to tie up white letter to spell the baby's name (I wasn't going to do the name thing but I'm not entirely opposed).
