NF&BR: Do you shop at Whole Foods?

Maybe you can relate to this funny video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UFc1pr2yUU

Believe it or not, I hate food shopping.  With the fire of a thousand suns.  I am also cheap when it comes to groceries, so I stay away from Whole Foods.  But, I've heard the stories.  lol

Re: NF&BR: Do you shop at Whole Foods?

  • I rarely shop at Whole Foods. I hate grocery shopping so much. But I love this video!

  • Once a month or so.  Ever since I bought a potroast at Ralphs and it seriously smelled and tasted like chlorine (I didn't eat it).  I was so turned off that I now like to get my red meat at Whole Foods - and fresh bread. It is WAY more expensive (the meat) but it tastes so much better and I feel a lot better knowing that there are no nasty chemicals in it!!

Other than red meat, though - my philosophy is that I lived in China, I'm still alive, and what I am eating here can't be worse than that.... lol. H

Hahaha oh that video is good!  And my little beach town is crazy hippie ... I was just talking with a bunch of girls at work about juicing and detoxes (i can't get on board) and I was like, yeah, you know we live in SoCal when we are talking about this crap!

  • We shop there so much that "Whole Foods" is part of my 22 month olds limited vocabulary.  Except when he says it, it sounds like "Ho Foo."  We don't buy many groceries there, but we do stop in once or twice a week to pick up prepared foods for dinner.  They have a good, healthy hot bar and also some packaged prepared foods that are great for a fast but healthy meal.
  • MsHark--That's a great point about the red meat at Whole Foods.  I recently read about the "pink slime" in ground beef and I don't want that.  Although, I guess buying organic grass-fed beef is the way to go at any supermarket.  But, I like Whole Foods deli meats, so it may become my one-stop meat destination.

Have you ever heard of HMart?  It's a Korean supermarket chain and this is the only place that I remotely enjoy food shopping in.  Okay, I kind of like Trader Joe's too now that I think about it.  Anyway, HMart's meat, seafood and produce sections are amazing and super fresh.  I gotta believe that there's some outposts in southern CA.

Ditto on juicing and detoxes.  I like to chew my food.

"Pay my $80 for six things and get the heck out!"

    That is SO TRUE!!!

  • I wish I had a Whole Foods closer to me to shop at. I think a lot of their store brand stuff can be a great deal. I have Wegmans to shop at for meat and produce, and I am certainly happy with their selection, but once in a while, a nice trip to Whole Foods is fun.

However, I am one of those people who really enjoys grocery shopping. I love Wegmans just as much as I love Target (!!!), and I call them both "my happy places."

  • Lol- We call it Whole Paycheck in my circle of friends.

I love their hot bar and their pizzas but I don't go as much as used to because I no longer live/work near one.  I used to go about once a week, Now I go every few months to stock up on items that I can't get anywhere else.

In my area we have a store that's very similar called Fresh Market and I go there more often than WF cause it's closer.

I love Fresh Market! I live right by the Merchant's Walk Whole Foods, but I go to Fresh Market for fish. They have a delicious bourbon marinated salmon.

The Chicago suburbs has one! I love going there as well as Mitsuwa (which is a Japanese mega-market) I *think* there may be one in California, too.

As for WF, yes, they are very pricey. However, I like finding more of their unique items that average grocery stores don't have (like a salad mix of baby swiss chard/spinach/kale) and things like that.

I'm also on the "no, thanks" list for juicing. It is SO overpriced and really I think those things can be made a home.  I believe one of the celeb-faves place called Pressed got in trouble for lying everything was freshly made. It was all pre-package and sold at a high rate.
