Looking for some really fluffy towels
DH and I received some towels for our wedding about 9 months ago, and loved them. They were incredibly fluffy and soft. However, within a few weeks I'd fallen out of love with them, because unless we spread them out over our dog's crate (or other flat surface full of holes) after use, they would really smell like, well, wet towel. Even doing that, I have to wash them twice a week. Now, they've lost almost all of their softness.
Does anyone know of any towels that stay soft, and don't gather smells like these ones do? I've heard great things about the hotel collection at macy's but that's above our budget.
TIA.
Re: Looking for some really fluffy towels
The smell issue sounds like a washing/washer issue!?
I love RH towels they are on sale right now and IMO worth every dollar.
I will confirm that the HC at Macy's is completely wonderful. There are three types, we have the medium-quality ones. If you wait for a sale and/or Google for a promo code + use a gift card/merchandise credit from cardpool.com, you can swing a great discount on Macy's stuff.
The Thomas O'Brien towels at Target come in a close second for me though. They were still fluffy after 5 years, I just bought the HC because I wanted a different color and something slightly fluffier.
As for your current towels, have you tried washing them without any detergent (sometimes soap buildups can make them stiff) and using a vinegar in the rinse cycle?
Take the towels you have rewash in hot with a cup of vinegar.
After that, put vinegar in the rinse cycle/fabric softener dispenser when you wash.
It'll kill any smells and keep your towels fresh.
Also, when you wash them how long are you drying them? My towels smell horrid when wet if I don't dry them long enough. I dry until I think they're dry then about 15 minutes longer.
Also, do you use fabric softener on your towels? It can cause build up and repelling issues that will leave a smell over time.
It solved my issues.
TBH though, I have no help on the towels. Mine aren't that fluffy.
I just wanted to give a suggestion.
I fell in love with some Thomas O'Brien hand towels about 5 years ago also. I recently bought a bunch of bath towels and have been very disappointed. Every one of them is snagged. I wash and dry them with only other towels so I know it isn't from something in the wash. Maybe the quality has changed..
All of this stuff!
Really you shouldn't use fabric softener (liquid or sheet) with towels, it causes build up in the loops and flattens them out. Your towels probably don't dry as well as they used to either.
I've started using white vinegar instead of fabric softener all together, you can't smell it after the wash/dry cycle and its so much better.
Also if you have been using the dryer sheets you will want to scrub the lent catcher. The waxy substance builds up on there as well, it might look clean but you can usually run water over it and the water won't go through. Scrub with hot sudsy water, rinse, and let dry. Its a fire hazard otherwise.
