laser hair first time

Ok so this is my question. I am a long time waxer. I would say 13 years. I am going today to get full brazilian (no landing strip nothing sorry TMI) and my under arms.. (I have little hair other than that)... Since it is the first time can anyone tell me what kind of reduction I will have.. I know it will not all be gone the first treatment but I am hoping for ok results.. any idea on this?

Re: laser hair first time

  • I think it depends on how strong of a candidate you are for laser hair removal.

One of my best friends had it done, and said that her first treatment was the most drastic.  The following treatments just took care of light growth and strays, but the first one took away most of the hair.

Well, I had one treatment done (Brazilian with a small landing strip), and I was told that because my hair isn't very dark (I actually had no idea - it seems dark to me, but it's not black) that it may not work very well for me.  Two months later it's all grown out and I can't even tell that I had the treatment.

I'm trying to decide if I should even continue with more treatments.  It was a groupon deal, and the drive is an hour each way.  This would be worth it if the treatment was going to work, but it's a lot of time to take out of my day for something that isn't going to work.  They said that I would most likely need more than the six treatments that I paid for.  It just seems like it might be more trouble than it's worth.  That said, I get really, really bad ingrown hairs from waxing, no matter how much exfoliating I do, and shaving is even worse.

  • I didn't notice much of a difference after the first treatment, but after all 6 I have no regrowth at all.

  • Are you getting laser or IPL...laser will last longer.  I didn't see dramatic results after my first, but after 4 treatments I have quite a few patches with no hair.  I space them out about 8-12 weeks so that I hit different hair growth times (if they encourage sooner than 8 weeks, tell them no).  You might also want to check out this website to answer questions you have.

  • It took several treatments for things to REALLY start working, but there were definite results after my first treatment.  I remember essentially if I touched a hair that had been successfully zapped, it would painlessly slip right out of its follicle.  It was a little odd.  One thing to keep in mind -- it can take a few days for the results to set in at all, so don't be discouraged when you leave the laser place and don't notice *anything*  for a while.

Lasering is some of the best money I've ever spent.  I'm so happy I did it.
