Another Retin-A Question

Do you put it under your eyes and in the crow's feet area?  This is something I didn't ask my dermatologist, and I've read lots of conflicting stuff online.  I have fine lines under my eyes and really would like to use Retin-A on them.

I probably put Retin-A in my under eye area every other night or every three nights, but I do every night on the rest of my face.  If you do it under your eyes, do you use a lower strength in this area?  I move up to .1% soon, but I don't want to use this strength on delicate under eye skin.

Re: Another Retin-A Question

  • Big, fat, YES!  That's where I need it the most!  I use it every night, .1% strength.  For me, personally, my chin area is way more sensitive and prone to peeling.  I've never had an issue with my eyes.

  • I don't mean to hijack your post but I just received Retin-A Micro .04 from my derm last week. I haven't started it yet - she wanted me to try the duac for a week by itself before introducing the Retin-A to make sure I didn' thave a reaction. Anyway, can you tell me about the different strengths? Is .04 a pretty low dose? Derm said to use every night but based on my own research I think I might start off at every second evening.

No problem at all! That is a medium strength dose and can definitely cause some irritation. There is a .025%, .05% (and apparently .04% :), and the strongest is .1%. I Started with .05 and my Derm said to start with every other day. I only skipped one night and then rushed into every night. Bad idea, because my skin turned extremely red. It looked terrible. So I definitely recommend every other night for a while before every night.

I'd suggest coconut oil and hydrocortizon to help with the flaking and irritation.  Use a dry washcloth in the morning to get off the flakes, then a small dab of hydrocortizone on the red patches, and a little coconut oil to moisturize.  That really cut down the reaction for me.
