How do you clean your hardwoods?

I have newly refinished hardwood floors in my new house. We did some drywall work, so I hand wiped up the drywall dust, but it doesn't look super clean. How do you clean your hardwoods for a big mess or for just general upkeep? Do you mop?  Use any type of cleaners? Thanks!

Re: How do you clean your hardwoods?

  • I use a bona cleaner about once a week.  It works really well and my floors are still looking like new 1 year after being refinished.

This is exactly what we do as well. I've tried a few other cleaners, but nothing seems to work as well for us or leaves the floor as shiny.

  • I have a Shark steam cleaner that I love.  I just have to make sure I replace the pad frequently and I don't get any streaks.  Sometimes I will clean with Method wood floor cleaner and a microfiber mop since that is also non-toxic and I love the almond scent.

  • mop and a mixture of water/vinegar.  I only do it maybe 4 times a year though.  In between we vacuum and spot clean any spills.

  • I use Bruce hardwood cleaner and plan to get the Eureka Enviro steam cleaner for occasional deep cleaning and sanitizing.

  • I bought the Bona Cleaning Kit from Bed Bath & Beyond. However, I have only used the cleaner (it comes with polish, too) and my floors still look great after 3 years. I love it because it leaves the floors clean with a nice shine but doesn't leave residue or buildup on the floor.

  • I vacuum a few times a week and use Bona every few weeks.  Sometimes I will touch-up with a Swiffer wet.
  • Bona is great! Floors are 8 yrs old and look like new.
  • I have very old floors and I vacuum and then mop with Orange Glo Hardwood Floor 4in1.  I have only been able to find this as OSH, but after 20+ years, 3 dogs and now grand-dogs... my floors look shiny clean with no build up.
