Light fixtures-are they all from the same collection?
DH works on a lot of very expensive homes. I have been to some of the homes and noticed that the light fixtures all seem to be the same throughout the house or from the same collection. I am just curious, is that common or is that just for brand new builds (which is mainly what he works on)? I would think that you want continuity, but what do you think?
Re: Light fixtures-are they all from the same collection?
I see that it non custom homes more than in custom builds. I think it is easier for the designer and the builder can get better prices.
I think people tend to stray from whole house collections when they are designing a space that they are actually living in. A room gets designed for the way they actually use it, and lighting is chosen to go with their things, rather than a blank space.
Continuity is in the eye of the beholder....some people may want to carry a finish throughout, others may just want a style that complements an architectural style, or whatever it is that makes it work for them. Some people buy collections because it is all matching and goes together because the like things to match (although I have seen collections that didn't seem cohesive other than finish), and/or they aren't comfortable mixing and matching themselves.
This. Mine are all the same because they came from the builder. I just left them because I like the way they look and are surprisingly good quality. The 2 ugly fixtures they put in the bedrooms I traded out for the same ones as the rest of the house actually.
It was just easier. That and I'm so mix and match in my style that similiar lighting does give my house a cohesive feel (it's pretty open). I also don't care about light fixtures. I prefer they blend in actually.
We have some that match- all our hallway lights are the same, but the others depend on the room. I'm not a huge fan of the entire house matching it wouldn't look right in our house. I do think it's much easier for the builder to chose from the same collection.
We had the option to choose whatever lighting we wanted when we built our home, but 1. I wasn't willing to add the expense at the time since the money was better spent elsewhere and 2. By the time it came down to lights, I was done making decisions on all the various finishes.
Right now all our lights appear to be from the same crappy collection and as soon as I can make a decision on lights they'll all be changed. I doubt I'll choose all from one collection as I much prefer different pieces throughout a home.
