What can you tell me about it? Have you installed it yourself? How much does it cost/how much would it cost to have it installed? (obviously there are a lot of variables, but a ballpark range or what you paid is fine). I'm considering replacing our wall-to-wall carpeting with laminate (at least in the living room and hallway). Would it be weird to have tile in the kitchens/bathrooms, laminate in the LR/hall, and carpet in the bedrooms? WWYD?
Re: Laminate flooring
We're having laminate installed next week over about 400 square feet of space and it will be about $3k. Because of the configuration of the room, we do have to have a fair amount of special/custom work done though (we have a sunken living room off of the room that's being floored, so they have to do a custom edge)...without that, it would probably be closer to $2400. We went with a mid-high price range for the laminate, so that's another variable to consider.
As far as your question about flooring throughout your house, I don't think it would be strange as you explained it. I would probably plan to put laminate in the bedrooms as well at some point.
No not at all! I really like that combo. It's practical and a good use of putting the more expensive finishes where people will actually see them.
Sorry I'm no help with the cost and such as we only have wall to wall carpet everywhere but the bathrooms and kitchen right now...except for the spaces in mid-remodel that is.
We installed our own laminate on our second floor a few years ago. The h put in 500sf in one day. easy to clean and much better than what we had before. We considered putting in a higher grade laminate on our main floor but opted for prefinished hardwood instead. The laminate I wanted was $2.89 sf, found a hardwood at $2.99sf.
If you decide to install yourself, be sure to have the proper underlayment if not already attached, get the kit with spacers/tool and a pair of knee pads.
