F/U to yesterday dress/big bust - WDYT of these?

My current plan is to buy whatever size to fit my bust and have it altered to fit the rest of me, so that I feel comfortable and attractive.

Are any of these worth ordering and trying?  Or are any of them particularly tragic?  Also, they come in tons of colors, so these aren't the only color options.

Re: F/U to yesterday dress/big bust - WDYT of these?

  • i like the second one the best.  i think the ruffle in the first will make the boobs pop too much, and they don't need any help.
  • I love 2 and 5 and possibly 4 depending on how well you do with cap sleeves.
  • That was my first thought - that any embellishment might not be the best idea.  I think the 2nd and the long one are my favorites currently (but the long one does have that ruching or whatever).  I might order 2-3 and see which ones I like best on or take all 3 to the alterations lady and see which ones she thinks which would look best tailored to fit me.

  • I love j.crew dresses. I always buy them on clearance with a coupon otherwise, I couldn't work one in the budget. I think I have four now.

I think all but the first would be worth trying. The first just has too much going on up top with the pleats. Give what you've said about your hips, two and four would probably be your best bet. The fabric of two will stand out and give your more balance while the pleats on four would add volume at the hips as well as swirl around your legs nicely.

Five is nice but will be a pain in the ass to alter and thus make it more expensive to do so.

I don't think you'd like three on your hips.

  • I have pretty skinny arms.  Basically any wait I carry is through my torso and I have stick arms/legs.  :)

  • I really like 1, but it's probably what I'd go for and I have small bust...it looks like it may make them look bigger?

2, 3 and 5 are also nice, 3 looks a little more formal so it would depend on where you wanted to wear it.

Not a fan of 4, but I don't know your body type (waist, hips, height, etc).

  • Very pretty!

    What's the event again?

1, 2 and 4 look to me like a day dress styles while the others look more evening.

3, 4 and 5 look like more of a PITA to alter the sides on. Though #2 seems a bit basic.

  • I think the ruffle on one may make you look even bigger on top.

    2 is good.

3 & 4 look like drapey material which usually makes my cleavage go berserk. Esp 3, maybe not so much 4?

5 I think is the prettiest dress

  • #5 is a universally flattering style for all body types.
  • Ok, I'm definitely going to order #2.  Good point re: altering #5.  It also makes me a bit nervous b/c it looks shorter and since I am sure I will be wrangling the kids a bit and I am tall, I might not want to go too short.

I think I may order 2-4...  I could probably have 3 tacked together higher than the v on that one if I decided I liked it, but I am not sure I will love it along my hips, proportion wise.

  • I like #3 and #4 (most).

  • I'm diggin 2,4, and 5.

I bought a lower V-neck dress from J Crew, I had the WORST experience wearing that piece. So awful. My boobs were flashing the masses. It was horrible.

  • I like 2,3,&5.

I ADORE 3 though. But, that's because I'm seeing myself in that dress, I would make some biotches SICK than a Mofo. (Sorry, I'm vain like that.)

If you have some hip and boo-tay - 5 with some sexy "You Can Get It Heels" (this is what my H calls them), you might end up KU because that would be smoking hot.

4 is Meh to me. I am not into the full/frilly skirt trend.

  • I'm 5'10, roughly 170lbs, F/G cup, and I carry all weight in my torso.  I have nonexistent hips/butt/thighs, lol.  If that changes anything for anyone.

This is for my BIL's wedding.  It's in the evening, but I wouldn't say it's super dressy.  I think I could get away with the long dress if I wore flat sandals... MH and kids are in the wedding (I am not).  He is wearing a navy suit, Jackson is wearing dress pants/top w/ bowtie and suspenders and Scarlett is wearing this:

My FSIL thought all the dresses would work for the style of the wedding (just depending on accessorizing choices).  I think both mothers are wearing long, typical MOTB/G dresses.  My FSIL's dress is a typical wedding dress - event starts at 5pm.

You hit on my fear for #5... if it's anything short and fitted, MH will be all over me.  I'm not sure I'm on board for child #3, lol.  He can't control himself if my legs are visible.

So I'm leaning towards trying 2, 3 and 5 now...so I can see the length on 5.  I just don't love #4, even though I think it would be flattering.

  • I like the last one, but maybe another color than dark blue? It is pretty. I like to accentuate my waist and I think that dress flatters the waist.

You know your body best so I could be way off base but to me #3, or long dresses in general, tend to look tube-ish to me if you carry all your weight in your midsection.  I could be reading your description wrong but if you don't have a defined waist I think you may just end up looking tube like (with boobs) in #3.

  • I think 4 is too casual for the event.

    5 seems best.

I'm thinking of trying the coral in that one.  It's bright, but I am already starting to tan from being outside with the kids and I have dark hair.

Yes, this is definitely my concern with #3.  It looks like it has a tiny bit of a waist, but not super defined.  I've had luck w/ long dresses in the past, so I plan on trying it, but I'm thinking 2 or 5 is probably going to end up winning.

For some reason, I am drawn to it, too!  And I love the mint color (which is the color I am ordering).  I might call though and see if they can make it in extra length - I think JCrew will do that with their wedding party dresses.

OMG!! There might be hope for me after all!!! *faints*

  • I love #4 but think it would be better suited to a smaller chest.  I would totes wear it and I have nothing going on up top.
  • I am in love with #5.  I think it would be an extremely flattering fit.

  • At first I liked 2 the best, but then I realized it was b/c of the color.  5 would be my top pick for style, although I also agree that could be a difficult tailoring job (not that I sew).

But, the width on the bottom of 2 could be a good balance to your top.

Are these all jcrew?  Did you know that if you order online you can return to the store?  It's easy peasy.

  • I have the top dress and I love it. I'm a 32DD. My SIL (36F) has it too and it looks great on her as well.
  • Just to clarify, number one doesn't make they eyes focus on the bust. I'd be happy to send you pics of big busted people in the dress if you'd like.
  • No 1 with the ruffles is a no. The long dress seems like too much fabric or something. Love the rest.
