Do people still use astringent or toner?

When I was younger, I used Sea Breeze every single day. Then I used Clinque Clarifying Lotion (in 2 during the winter, 3 in the hot summer). But I have not used a toner in probably 10 years.

Do people still use them?

Re: Do people still use astringent or toner?

  • I do.  It just makes my skin feel "cleaner".  I recently switched from Clinque Clarifying Lotion to plain old which hazel.  My skin looks great.
  • I do.  I'm using rose water now for my toner.  It's very soothing to the dry patches.
  • I use a glycolic toner, and sometimes witch hazel.
  • Just to add to the post, I used to work at the Clinique counter. I had a coworker who had used Clinique Clarifying Lotion #4 for, like, 20 years. (She was 40ish) For those of you who aren't familiar w/ CCL#4, it's very strong. You might as well pour battery acid on your skin. It burns. But she had amazing skin. She reminded me of Snow White. Her skin was white as snow and as soft as a baby's bottom. Not a single hint of a line or crease and not a single blemish. It was kind of freakish, actually.

I've also used SeaBreeze and Clinique Clarifying Lotion. Now I use rubbing alcohol several times a week (used to be daily!) because it's cheaper and available everywhere. It's just the most effective way to get ALL the dirt, makeup and grime off.

I don't have dry skin at all, so I only moisturize occasionally.

  • I use Witch Hazel daily.  It makes my skin feel so clean.

I ran out of my rose water and haven't picked up another bottle (need to do that...). I really liked it. Helped even out the dry spots but also got rid of excess oil. Overall, my skin just looked better when I was using it.

  • I use Clarifying Lotion 1 and have for years.
  • I use witch hazel. Can't beat the prize and I can get it practically everywhere.
  • I use toner every time I wash my face. My skin doesn't feel right if I don't. And after washing off my make-up, I notice some still comes off with the toner. I like one with salicylic acid but no alcohol. I've been using Avalon Organics for awhile now.
  • I use 2 different face washes. I mostly use my one where the wash is wash and toner. The other has toner as the 2nd step. My face feels super tight if I don't use toner so I always use it
  • I use a mild one (Neutrogena freshener).  I have dry skin, and it really seems to help "prep" my skin before moisturizing.

  • Yep. I just use witch hazel. My skin is so weird. If I wash it with any kind of cleanser, it ends up dried out and flaky when it dries, even if I use moisturizer. But of course, if I skip a wash, it is a grease bomb and breaks out. So, toner it is.
  • I have been using Lush's Tea Tree Water for toner for the past few months and I really like it. Its great for my oily skin and helps my skin feel and look cleaner and preps it for moisturizer.

when I'm feeling a cheap, I use witch hazel but like the above a bit better

  • I've used Clinique's Clarifying Lotion 2 for about 6 years. I recently ran out, and decided to test and see if I really "needed" it, or if it was just a gimmick Clinique sells me.

I went about a month without it, and I was seriously going through withdrawl. I have dry skin, and it really helps with the dry patches before I moisturize and put makeup on. I'm not sure if makes my skin look any better, but when I wasn't using it my dry areas would definitely show up after I applied makeup. I guess it helps smooth out my skin, even if I exfoliated and washed my face. After a month, I couldn't go without it anymore.

  • I break out if I don't..I need the 3 steps. I use the clinique acne line
  • I wash with cleanser and water at night and use only toner in the morning before moisturizing. I found using cleanser and water twice a day was too drying, and toner in the morning does a good job of removing oil before applying make up.

  • I do not (anymore.)

I use cleansing oils and then a night cream. It really, really works for my skin.

  • Lol, I used Sea Breeze back in the day! I loved that stuff

  • I make my own with rose water, witch hazel, and a little glycerin because my skin is dry. I love it.
  • I use the Clinique toner - it's nice to use especially when I don't have much time to do my full skincare routine due to LO.

    LOL
