Would this look dumb? It would, right?

We're going to be giving the master bathroom a facelift.

It has a separate tub and shower.

Would it look dumb if I added a shower curtain in front of the tub? This isn't our tub but it looks like this:

I don't know why I think this would be a good idea.

  • It costs $13 dollars to see if it is a good idea - get a plastic liner and a tension rod and see.

I would be in favor of in more if you were going to leave bathing things in the tub rather than carry them over for a bath and put them back or if the bathroom were "public"

  • I don't think it would be half bad actually. I wish I had the space to do mine actually, but mine is in a corner and it would take like 3 curved rods and 4 curtains. I don't have the energy for that. ;)
  • The only reason I think it would look odd is because you have a seperate shower. How far away are they from each other?
  • If the curtain will remain closed, the bathroom would look like you have two showers. NMS.  I liked what they did at the resort DH and I stayed for our HM.  One of the tubs had high end looking curtains but were kept open.  Like the curtains framed the tub.  Not sure if that would look ok..
  • Could you do a folding divider instead?
  • Why would you want to put a curtain in front of the tub?  We have a separate tub and shower and it never occurred to me to cover it...it's not like water is splashing out when you take a bath or anything...
  • Why would you want one?

Is there a curtain around the shower, or a glass enclosure or something else?

If you want to screen the tub from view, I would go with something a little nontraditional, like a panel curtain or rattan shade or something:

  • I think it could actually be kind of nice. Fabric always softens a space and gives a nice finished look.  I think two panels would be better than one though.

I think the panels would work if it was contemporary decor, but might look strange depending on the type of shower enclosure.

I think the idea of curtains to frame the tub is a good one. I don't think I like the idea of a full-on shower curtain covering the tub though.

This explains my idea more clearly than I did. This is the type of look I'd be going for. The tub and shower are on opposite ends of the bathroom; the cabinet and toilet are between them. The shower is a glass door enclosure.

  • I love the idea of curtains on either side. Like this:
