Functionality of double shower curtain rod?

As I was searching for a new shower curtain rod, I came across these types of rods:

I don't understand the purpose of it. Why would you want to open the shower liner separately from the shower curtain? What am I missing? lol

The description also reads, "Keeps towels easily accessible." And some of the reviews also said they use one of the rods to hang a towel. But how is that easier? First of all, imagine trying to slide a towel between the rods. Second, you still having the sliding issue as a single rod, right?

Re: Functionality of double shower curtain rod?

  • The only reason I can think for it is...I don't like the closed in feeling with a curtain and really miss our shower doors from our old house but clear curtains are ugly and no one wants to look at a liner.   I could see using it and leaving the curtain open but keeping the liner closed.

  • It might make it easier to take off the liner for laundering. We used to have curtain rings that made it kind of a pita to take the liner off. I could see it coming in handy for people who like to use the decorative panels on the sides....the ones that remind me of theater curtains.

I did wonder about that but I couldn't think how to describe it. That was perfect. lol The curtain rings make sense too.

  • A bath when you don't need the liner because there is no spray but still want privacy.
  • We hung two separate shower rods because there's no light directly above the shower. When I shower, I move the decorative curtain to the side and the clear liner lets the light in.

  • I used it decoratively, with a solid on the inside and a patterned curtain outside.  Also the curved shower rod gave is lots more arm room.
