Would this be a curtain crime?

I want to order these curtains for DD's nursery.

They only come in 50" width.  The window they would be going on is 51" wide. They will be for decor only (as side panels), not to actually cover the window; we have wood blinds for that purpose.

I'm considering only ordering one panel and having it made into two.  Would this be horrible or can I get away with it?

Re: Would this be a curtain crime?

  • 50 inches wide, and then divided in half, and then you will also lose some width for hemming...they would be maybe 24 inches wide if you get lucky.

I'd say no it will be too skinny and wimpy looking. I have no problem with curtains that aren't wide enough to cover a window as long as you don't actually close them and they just hang, but if you hang a narrow strip of fabric and try to pass it off as a curtain it looks pretty bad IMO. I'd get two, you need enough that they look "full" when opened and not like a straight strip of fabric hanging there.

    But I LOVE those drapes!!!

  • I agree with Fuzzypeach
  • I wouldn't say it's a "crime" but I think each side being only 24 inches is going to look really slim. Even if it's just for decoration, personally I think it would look better if it were a full panel on each side.

Ugh!  I know you're right.  I just really don't want to shell out $200 on curtains for a nursery! LOL

  • You could pretty easily DIY something like that out of striped twin flat sheets, if cost is a concern.
  • I would find something similar for less and get two for sure, especially if you aren't really using them as curtains.

  • Splitting one panel will be too skimpy.  Find similar panels for less - make some.
