The Friday Five

This seemed approprriate for the weekend coming up! :)

Getcha Geek On!

1.  Are you a loser? 2.  What "geeky" activities do you take part in (games, trivial pursuits, etc)?

3.  Are you out of the closet about your geekiness?

4.  Does your significant other join in on these activities? (Or, if single, would a potential SO have to?)

5.  Geekiest public moment?

Re: The Friday Five

  • 1.  Are you a loser?  I'mma loser baby.... so why doncha kill me....  seriously though, I don't think I'm a loser as in a deadbeat junkie, but I'm sure I could have been viewed as a loser in the past by others, if not most, of the people at my school.  Hell, I'm sure there are plenty now that view me as a loser, and I'm OK with that

    2.  What "geeky" activities do you take part in (games, trivial pursuits, etc)?  What DON'T I partake in??  I used to watch anime and attend conventions, I still play video games, card games, board games, and conventions related to the like.  And sometimes I cosplay/dress up for said conventions. And I mainly read sci-fi / fantasty novels, though my tastes are expanding.  I love technologies and try to get involved with as much as I can.

    3.  Are you out of the closet about your geekiness?  Oh absolutely.  There was a reason I only had a select group of friends while I was in high school who had similar interests, and it's definitely carried over into adulthood.  I was a geek before being a geek was cool.

    4.  Does your significant other join in on these activities? (Or, if single, would a potential SO have to?)  He wouldn't be my husband if he didn't!  One of the things that brought us together in high school was sitting at the same table in the library during study period talking about viedo games!

  • 1). I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me....yeah that immediately popped into my head too.  I was a loser in like 6th grade because I was really hairy and I wasn't allowed to shave my legs or armpits so I got made fun of a lot.  Once my mom realized how much I was being tortured she let me shave.

     2) I guess my geek level has gone down a bit in recent years just because I don't have time or the resources to partake as much.  I used to play WOW, and still have all my disks for the original Warcraft games before it went online.  We had a nintendo that I played a lot but it died and we haven't replaced it.  When we get Alex's first gaming system in several years then I'll probably get back into it.  I played old school Kings Quest on floppy disk back when you had to type in commands to make the character walk.  I've always been more of a computer gamer rather than consoles.  I also used ti play D&D in highschool which was definitely looked upon as nerdy. Oh and I played Final Fantasy a lot in college before WOW, nickname was obviously Steena for a while..

    3) I would say I used to be more so than now but I'm not actively hiding it now it just dosent cone up at work and all my friends know me already, so its no secret.

    4) Joel was a legit WOW addict but gave it up after he graduated from college to make time for "more productive things" his words.  He now plays some game in his iPad that looks identical to WOW and with the new offer right now I encouraged him to get it if he wants because our guy friends are back into it again and ithey do LAN parties every few weeks. He doesn't go out ti the bars ever so he needs something to get aome guy time in!  His issue is he knows once he starts he'll be on it all the time again, I keep saying just set limits, but ah well.

    5)  Hmm, I can't really think of anything.  I mean I went to comic book stores a lot which are in public lol. I've never been to a convention so I've never dressed in character or anything, I would if I were going to one though!  And that would probably count.

  • 1.  Are you a loser?  Probably to some people. I'm anti-social and awkward, and I have weird interests for my age.

    2.  What "geeky" activities do you take part in (games, trivial pursuits, etc)?  I used to be big into web design, waaay back in the day, when HTML mattered. I had my own domain and I was not allowed to use Dreamweaver or anything, I had to hand code everything. (Because those are the restrictions a computer geek family puts on an 11 year old...) I also used to be really into this chatroom/graphic editing thing called Palace. Oh, and LJ/DJ. I had a bout a million of those. Basically, I've always had more friends on the interwebs than in real life.

My geekiness now is mostly related to what I read (huge obsession with 19th century literature and the role of women in those novels) and my work/play relationship with the stock market. I'm also becoming more and more interested in linguistics.

    3.  Are you out of the closet about your geekiness?  Sure, I always have been. I actually read an article the other day about "fake-geekiness" now, since certain areas of geekiness have become trendy. So I don't think many people are in the closet about their geeky interests, anymore.

    4.  Does your significant other join in on these activities? (Or, if single, would a potential SO have to?)  He has his own geekiness: video games and learning foreign languages for fun. He also frequents Giant Bomb (online gaming site) and is pretty active on those boards.

    5.  Geekiest public moment?

No picture, but in high school I was in the Technology Student Association. In 9th grade I competed in a CAD competition (didn't win) and in 10th grade I was on a team that built a robot with a camera on its head. It won 3rd place in regionals, woot woot.

    Getcha Geek On!

    1.  Are you a loser? I wouldn't say loser, but at times am nerdy. 2.  What "geeky" activities do you take part in (games, trivial pursuits, etc)? I love trivia, board games, and books. Me spending a day at a bookstore is heaven. I love being with friends, but sometimes I need alone time..

    3.  Are you out of the closet about your geekiness? Yes.

    4.  Does your significant other join in on these activities? (Or, if single, would a potential SO have to?) He is nerdy about comic books, WWE, and being superorganized.

    5.  Geekiest public moment? Being in a moot court competetion in college. We made it to the nationals, which was pretty big for my little liberal arts college.

  • 1.  Are you a loser? Eh, I don't know. I'm more of a closet geek than a loser, I think. I think most people think I'm cooler than I do.2.  What "geeky" activities do you take part in (games, trivial pursuits, etc)?  Not as much as I used to. DH and I used to play text-based RPGs, and WoW. I play a ton of games on my iPhone that probably make me a geek, though.3.  Are you out of the closet about your geekiness? Not really. I'm pretty much in the closet.4.  Does your significant other join in on these activities? (Or, if single, would a potential SO have to?) Yep, I think he's geekier than me, judging by his gigantic bookcase of sci-fi/fantasy novels5.  Geekiest public moment? Probably trips to SImuCon (which is where I met DH in person), but I never wore costumes or anything

  • 1.  Are you a loser?
Definitely not a loser. Maybe a closet geek, but not a loser.

    2.  What "geeky" activities do you take part in (games, trivial pursuits, etc)?

As far as games go - WoW, and a few other random MMORPG's and Oblivion.

I read a lot, and love fiction. Other people find that weird, whats wrong with Anne Rices vampire chronicles...way better than twilight!

I have recently started playing chess, although I am horrible at it, and I love trivia and puzzle game shows!

    3.  Are you out of the closet about your geekiness?

A bit, people know I played Wow and I am always open about what I read, but I don't think they realized how much I played- or would be weirded out when I started talking about "raiding, vent, guilds" etc.

    4.  Does your significant other join in on these activities? (Or, if single, would a potential SO have to?)

Yep, I recently got him interested in reading, although he prefers philosophy.

    5.  Geekiest public moment?

Probably a few weeks ago when the clerk at the liquor store noticed my Blizzcon lanyard and engaged me in a conversation about the current state of the game and my previous playing experience, while everyone was waiting in line behind me.
