Can I AW a bit?

BF's daughter is getting married in July, and she wants me to do the cooking/baking for the reception!  Big Smile  It's just going to be a small, casual thing (JoP ceremony followed by a reception at BF's sister's house), but I'm still flattered and excited!

AND I found out that I am being made task lead on a $200k project at work--this is my first "real" professional job, and I've been there for only 6 months, so it would seem that I'm making a good impression!

Ok, /AW.  Feel free to add your own!

Re: Can I AW a bit?

  • Exciting!!!! :)  Congrats on the job stuff!!!  And the wedding stuff sounds fun, your BF's daughter must really like you :)

My AW is... I took the placement test for school last week and I KICKED it's BUTT. I placed into a higher math class than I ever have on that test (I've taken it like three times over the past like 6 years haha) So I am pretty stoked :) I can't wait for school to start!!!

  • That's really cool!  And great that you have a good relationship with your BF's daughter.  Her wanting you to do her wedding is a big compliment!

And congrats on your job too!  What do you do for a living - catering/baking stuff or something different?

Congrats Dakota!  That's awesome.  What are you going to school for?  Nursing?  Or was that someone else?

That's someone else, right now I'm planning on Geology, but no idea, I could change my mind haha. I'm basically starting at the beginning, getting an associates at my local community college and then hopefully moving on to a 4 year from there :)

  • UDScooby and Dakota--that is awesome on both fronts! Congrats.

My AW is lame but I will add it anyway: I lost 2 lbs, now just ehrewhe to go!

Well good luck!  I took a Geology class in college and it was fun.  If you end up taking that route, you could always use your degree to do something like environmental testing and consulting.  Those people make good money.

  • Thanks, ladies!

I did work for a year as a baker in a professional kitchen at an elementary school, but currently, I work as a researcher.  I miss the kitchen, but I don't miss the miniscule paycheck!

I think BF's daughter isn't quite sold on me, but she knows that I can cook (and they're trying to keep costs down), so I'm looking at this as a chance to really come through for her.

And yes, BF and I are headed to the Bahamas for a week starting tomorrow!  We got a free upgrade to first class for the flight there, so the trip is already off to a good start!  I'm counting down the hours!

Congrats to Dakota and Dmarie, too!  Smile

  • Super jealous scooby! First class is fun, my mom and I went to Hawaii a few years ago for a business conference and she got us first class tickets, it was awesome.

thanks everyone! I think Geology will be super interesting, and it sounds like there's a lot you can do with that degree, so hopefully that works out! One of my good friends who I actually met on my knot month board is a geologist and she's the one who got me thinkin it would be a good idea, so if I end up interested in the same industry she's in maybe she could help me find a job out in her area :)

  • So exciting!

  • That's so awesome!  What are you going to make?   Have you thought about a menu yet?  Cooking is something I've thought a lot about starting to do more of lately.  My XH was an amazing cook so for 7 years I barely ever cooked.  That was probably the biggest adjustment with my divorce!

I asked if there was anything specific that she wanted on the menu, and I've been told no lemon, pineapple, or scallops due to various allergies, but she hasn't had time to think about it much other than that.  It'll depend a lot on whether she wants something more sit-down, or something that's more finger food (open house-style).  Her FI is Russian, so I'm hoping there will be some traditions from his heritage that they would like to incorporate, because that would be fun!

  • That's so awesome! Congrats on both accounts, Scooby.

I guess my AW of the day has to do with ds and bf. DS had a project for school. It's the typical "egg drop" project where the kids design a device to put an egg in and when you drop it from a ladder it can't break (but they are in Kindergarten, so it was a "family" project). Well bf had an idea from something he did in Cub Scouts to pack it in a box with popcorn. DS decided that was a good idea. We tested it last night and it worked. But we had to re-do it this morning so it was good and strong for the class egg drop today. So I got all the supplied and woke up early this morning to pop fresh popcorn. Then I went upstairs to get ready for work. When I came downstairs the project was all ready to go to school -- bf had helped ds do his project so I had one less thing to worry about this morning. Then ds gave bf a big hug and in the car on the way to school told me, "I miss bf when he isn't home." (he has been gone all week on a business trip). So sweet ...
