Hoping he makes it

Our new rescue pup, Cash, was diagnosed with Parvo today. We just rescued him on Monday. The good news is we caught it really early. The vet said it's a very good sign that he isn't vomiting or having diarrhea a ton, and there has been no blood in his feces. I am doing treatment at home. Subcue fluids 2-3 times a day. He gave a long-acting 10 day antibiotic injection at the office, and sent me home with daily amox. injections. Also anti-nausea injections, and dewormers. Nutrical until he starts perking up, and then things like cottage cheese, chicken and rice, etc...Just praying he can pull through this. He is the sweetest little boy and we love him already.

Does anyone have any Parvo survivor stories to perk me up?

Re: Hoping he makes it

  • Good luck!  A local rescue had two puppies from a litter with parvo exposure survive and both are doing great.  It definitely can and does happen.

  • Good luck to your pup!

  • We adopted a dog who was diagnosed with Parvo.  We also caught it early.  The shelter ladies had more experienc in nursing dogs back to health and too Vander so they could give him the care he needed.

He lived to a ripe old age.

    Good luck.

  • Our Zoey had parvo in 2008....she was a little over a year old. She never had diarrhea or vomiting either. The thing that got me concerned was she acted extremely lazy. I asked her if she wanted water and she didnt move...I then asked her if she wanted a treat (she loves treats). When she didnt budge for that, I knew something was up. She stayed at the vets for 3 days (longest three days of my life!!). The vet said she didn't have a lot of energy at first after I left her but whenever I went to visit she was like a total different dog. We came home and bleached everything she had been in contact with (so it was good she was at the vets because it gave us time to get the house ready for her). When she came home the first couple of nights were rough. She threw up a lot and had diarrhea a lot too. But after the first week or so she was back to her crazy self again. :-) She will be turning 6 in September! Just make sure to follow everything the vet said and give your baby lots of love (the vet said Zoey seemed to do a lot better after hubby or I visited with her). Sending prayers your way!!
