Lurker here. I'm writing here because pet people know about this sort of stuff.
I found it this morning on the inside of my leg at the knee level. It was attached to my skin, but not full of blood. I pulled it out and got the head too.
It left a dark purple dot, maybe the size of a smallish eraser under the skin like some blood is trapped there, like how it looks when you get a blood blister. It's several hours later and I have noticed a light, reddish/pink ring around the darker dot. So it goes purpleish dot, then some light skin color, then the red/pink ring. And, it is truely a ring.
It is a little painful and I can feel its presence even when it isn't touched.
What should I do? Doctor? Which doctor? Any experience or advice to share? I'm kind of worried and freaked out. Thanks. Also, I'm nursing my DD, should I stop?
Re: I Got a Tick Bite w/ a red ring - Help Please.
Do you still have the tick? That sounds like a weird question, but I believe they can test it to see if it's a carrier for Lyme.
I would go to the doctor as soon as you can, since you said there's a ring.
As for breastfeeding, most doctors don't think it's passed through breast milk, but if you're worried, do you have any pumped breast milk you can use until you get in to see a doctor? Some will have you stop breast feeding until they determine if you have it/you have an antibiotic treatment, some won't.
I hope it's just a random inflammatory reaction, and not Lyme!
Edited because I'm not a doctor. lol
Snow!
<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DTypically the rash does not appear until a week or two after the bite and I think the earliest is after a few days. It is more likely that Lyme was transmitted if the tick was there for a long period of time. If the tick was not yet engorged it is less likely that you would get Lyme disease. At this point I think it is more likely just irritation from the bite itself, but if you are concerned I would call your PCP on Monday and they may prescribe antibiotics. It is best to start treatment in the first couple weeks so even if you do have lyme it isn't urgent. According to the CDC it have never been transmitted through breast milk.
To make you feel my love.
A coworker of mine was bitten by a tick recently that carried Lyme. She saved the tick & brought it to be tested. Even though the tick tested positive, her dr said it was unnecessary to treat her unless she started showing flu like symptoms.
I'd call your primary care dr. It sounds like there are different points of view.
Male ticks to not engorge. I would go to the Dr. next week.
OP, where do you live? Can you post a picture of the tick?
