Oven burn on arm... how to treat?

My niece was baking cookies, and the oven mitt wasn't long enough. She accidentally burned her upper arm on the oven rack.

What is the best treatment for her? We've been putting Neosporin on her burn, but she also plays softball and she says the wound keeps opening as she is at bat or is pitching.

Any helpful info would be great!

Re: Oven burn on arm... how to treat?

  • she should probably see a doc if it's an open wound.

I always put tea tree oil on my burns and it works wonders.

  • my mom works at an elementary school in the kitchen, she always has some degree of burn. when she got a pretty bad one, we cleaned it up some, rinsed it in lukewarm water (never use cold water, it shocks the burnt skin and causes issues/cracking of the burn later). We used burn cream for the first night and then after that when she had to go back to work (had the same cracking/open blister issues), we covered it with the 2nd skin burn patches. They're like band aids, but with a moisture patch that keeps the wound in better shape. My mom swears by them now.
  • I was going to suggest that vodka always helps me whenever I burn myself. I just pour a shot, and after that I don't care so much.

But, for your niece... burn cream and keeping it clean :)
