Update on puppy with Parvo

Cash is still hanging in there. I really thought yesterday we were going to lose him. He was vomiting all day long and had diarrhea all day. I just kept pumping him with fluids, and giving him some egg through a dropper to help him keep up his protein. The vet said we should expect to see a major decline in his health, and if we could get him through it, he had a pretty good chance of beating this. I'm assuming what we experienced yesterday was the decline, but today he is MUCH better. No vomiting except for once this morning. He kept down all meds, all the egg, only had 1 bout of diarrhea this morning, AND he ate a couple pieces of ham on his own tonight!!!

I really think I am going to pull him through this. Thanks to all who posted their encouraging survivor stories!! They helped!

Re: Update on puppy with Parvo

  • Awesome, glad to hear it! I hope he keeps getting better.

And in the future - dogs shouldn't have ham.

  • Hi, lurker/newbie here. I didn't see where your puppy got parvo, but just wanted to let you know my puppy (grown puppy) had parvo at 4 weeks and he is now 2 years old :) . Growing up he was a couple weeks behind in growth but he eventually got to full size.
  • I hope he keeps getting better!

  • I hope he continues to get better, he sounds like a tough little guy!
  • I didn't read your original post.  Why is he not hospitalized?  Vomiting & diarrhea causes severe dehydration, more than you can replace with fluids.

Apparently not, because the sub-q fluids worked just fine. He got a good report at the vet's office today. Symptoms should stop completely by the end of the week.

There was already a hospitalization plan in place had he not responded well to the at-home treatment. So thanks for your holier-than-thou response, but I have it under control.
