Painting our house, and we have a cat.

We started painting our house and we planned on painting the higher stuff first and then do the lower part. We planned on putting the cat down stairs for a few hours so she didn't get into the paint.

But she escaped when I went down stairs and I guess I didn't realize that I let her upstairs. She went and rubbed against a wall, so she got paint all over her back.

DH caught her and held her down and yelled at me to come upstairs. I washed as much of the paint off of her as I could. (Which seems to be most of it.)

I am wondering if leaving her with a little bit of paint on her back is ok?

  • I would wash her until you are certain there's nothing left. She'll hate you for it but it's better than her cleaning herself and getting poisoned.
  • You could also trim off the paint that's still there. She might look a little funny for awhile but fur grows back!
  • This happened to us once and I was able to cut out the painted parts with scissors (it wasn't a ton). Any chance you can trim off the paint parts?

  • Definitely bathe her and trim off parts you can't get clean. If you have an e-collar, have her wear that until she dries so she doesn't lick herself too much.

  • Thanx everyone. She was very upset after DH held her down and I washed her off. I cut the rest of the paint out of her hair. (It was only a little bit, but she loks hilarious because it was on the top of her head. lol)

She is now locked in the basement when we paint. That is one mistake we wont make again. :)
