The past few years I haven't read too many books just for fun, mostly books for educational reasons like homemade dogfood info and health related things. My fun reading has come in the form of Playboy articles and excerpts since we get that magazine and I actually find them entertaining.
I downloaded some of the free iBooks for the iPad and there are quite a few classics on there that I never got around to reading. I figure if I can get into the free books and then I know that I can start paying for the regular books that I would like to read but wasn't sure if I would find the time or get into it enough.
I'm already 6 chapters into the one I downloaded, which I am proud of myself for! Maybe after this I will be able to read some of the great books you have all suggested, because I have taken note on some of your faves from past discussions.
I really want to get Eat, Pray, Love since I have never read the book or watched the movie. I will get through the current free book first though, before I dive into another.
Re: I am trying to get back into reading for "fun"
That's great, I love reading, but admittingly don't do it as often as I'd like.
I actually just finished a book this past weekend, so I need to pick a new one. I'm leaning towards The Help, but haven't decided for sure yet. I always say I want to read more of the classics, but I never seem to get around to it!
yeah, last year the only books I read where Chelsea Handler's books and they are such bubbblegum fluff that it doesn't even seem like legit "reading", haha. I love her books though, they cracked me up.
I'm trying to get into stuff with more substance, so far so good, but I will still enjoy the fluff every so often for mindless reading.
If you download the Kindle and Nook apps on your iPad, there are lots of freebies there as well. Plus Project Guttenburg is adding all of the classics online but both Kindle and Nook offer them free as well.
I absolutely love reading, but unfortunately I don't get to do it as often as I'd like.
Right now I'm just starting Hunger Games because everyone raves about it! And after that I'm planning on reading 50 Shades of Grey.
Eat,Pray,Love was a good book, but I personally liked the movie much better.
Thanks for the tips, I didn't even realize the Kindle app would work with the iPad. I will definitely check them out. Free stuff is the best!
I've been reading much more often since I got my Kindle in Feb. I loves it! I finished the Hunger Games series the week before the movie came out and really enjoyed it.
I was thinking of getting The Help maybe. I keep hearing about 50 Shades of Grey but am not sold on it yet since it's like $30 for all 3. We'll see. Happy reading!
I would agree with this, however, it isn't as hardcore as it could have been. I thought it was done pretty tastefully.
Also if you get the Nook or Kindle app, check out your local library for e-books that you can check out. I use Philly's and it's great! I rarely pay for a book anymore!
