Best tanning solution for really really fair skin?

I don't know what the latest and greatest is! Spray tanning? A lotion from Sephora? What's the best/most natural looking/non orange/non smelly?

Thanks!

Re: Best tanning solution for really really fair skin?

  • I tried the Jergens natural glow that many people seem to have luck with but it turned me orange.  I recently tried St. Tropez bronzing mousse which I had good results with not orange at all.  I didn't notice the typical tanning smell until after the developing time was complete (4 hours) and it lingered for about a day but it was tolerable and much milder compared to other products I have tried. I bought it from QVC but you can also get from Sephora or their direct website. Someone was just raving about a self-tanner a couple posts down supergoop I think it was called.
  • Someone here mentioned the Hemp self tanner sold at Walmart and it really is my favorite - and BONUS, it's the cheapest by a long shot.

I've tried Jergens, Lancome, and a couple other brands I don't remember and didn't like any of them. In my experience I didn't like the smell, orange tint, or I just plain sucked so hard at applying that they'd end up looking streaky.

The Hemp stuff won't give you a dark tan, but when used as your daily moisturizer it will def give you a tint. It also smells ok - kinda like a Haw. Tropics tanning lotion.

  • I've heard good things about the St. Tropez stuff at Sephora...they make an everyday/gradual tanning lotion that I'm thinking about getting for summer.

  • If you're against the beds I'd do a spray tan. They can look pretty natural but I personally prefer beds
  • I have VERY fair skin...never had a tan a day in my life, freckles, etc.  I bought Jergens new sunscreen self-tanning lotion recently.  The first night I used it, I botched it up (orange, streaky, etc).  I let it fade and read some tips.  Last night, I tried again.  After shaving/showering, I put regular lotion on the "problem" areas first - ankles, toes, knees, behind the knees.  Then, I applied the Jergens - about a nickel-sized amount for the below one knee and a nickel-sized amount for above one knee.  I rubbed it in circles until I couldn't rub it in anymore, then I breezed over my foot and did the other leg.  I washed my hands immediately after.  This morning I have a very soft color on my legs and I love it.  I will repeat my regime tonight and see what tomorrow brings.  Hopefully it works.
