You know it's a rough day at CrossFit when...
...this is your posted time on the whiteboard:
The WOD was "Chelsea," which is 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 15 squats, every minute on the minute for 30 minutes.
...yeah. I managed the first 10 rounds at 5/10/15, and then basically went to "whatever I could complete in a minute" without rhyme or reason. There was basically no rest between sets. Oof.
Hence...I decided that today I was a "participant." Ha.

True. It is very weird going from being able to keep up to being the slow person!
We are having a baby boom though--two other women in this morning's class are KU, too.

Um hi. I can't do pull ups at all yet. Do you do ring rows or pull ups?
I am a champ in my "on ramp" class (the first month at my box), but I feel like I'm in for a shock when I start coming to legit WODs.

Oh, I don't do full pull-ups, either. I do them with a resistance band looped around the bar. I've never done one, and I'm just getting worse at them as I gain weight.
I didn't know you were doing CF! Enjoy!

This is my second week. I like it so far, but I am really uncoordinated. I mean, I can do a million pushups and ring rows, but try to get me to clean (like to get the bar from a deadlift to "rack") or do something involving having control over my body is like pulling teeth. I "get" it, intellectually, but I just can't DO it. To be fair, last night was my first attempt, but still. I hope I get there
Everyone thought I was a badass during the first week when it was all running, mountain climbers, ring rows, and squats. Now I think they're reconsidering.

It takes time!
Plus, everyone has a "goat." We have Goat Days where we spend half the class just working on something you suck at. It's frustrating, but everyone has an Achilles heel, so to speak, so it's always interesting to see what people pick to work on.
It took me roughly 3 months to be able to do a burpee without thinking, "okay, drop, chest down, hop forward, jump up, clap" and pausing between each move. Suuuper awkward.

You will get there!! I was the start of my "on ramp" as well and then got VERY humbled at my first "real" WOD. But you will make progress!!
This is my problem with my boot camp class now. I was just downgraded to the slow group. I almost cried. I can still keep up, I am just not the first to finish anymore and slowing down with every class.
We did Chelsea a couple of weeks ago. It was fun, but intense.
Yay, Katies! I'm glad you took the plunge.
I would love to be just a "participant" right now
I think it's awesome you are rocking CF pregnant.

(Sorry to threadjack)
I go here. Onramp is four weeks of MWF at 6:30.
It's pretty easy to get there, and wouldn't be too far from campus for you, but parking can be a little difficult.
I am liking it so far, and as a marathoner, I am sure you'd come in with a higher fitness level than most of the onrampers. Most of my classmates are about my age (29), with a few in their 30s and one in her 40s. Most haven't worked out in a long time, and as I was looking around yesterday, I was wondering what the attrition rate is like. I can't imagine all of these people are going to stick around. CrossFit hurts. CrossFit is intense. CrossFit is not for everyone.
I do love the coaches though, especially Mitch. Everyone there is a super straight shooter. Mitch was telling us about the games scheduled for August. "You guys are welcome to come. You can even participate. You won't win, but you can participate." There will be no smoke blown up your ass. But they will believe in you. If you'd told me a few weeks ago that I would be able to do what I did yesterday (throwing around 50+ pounds) I would've said you were crazy. But the coaches just acted like it was crazy if I didn't do it, and wouldn't you know it...I was able to do it. Not without several failures. But I did get it!

Thanks Katie!! And I'm the one who's sorry for threadjacking!
It sounds really interesting to me, and I want to make a change after this marathon next weekend. Just not sure I can commit to CF at the moment though. Good luck with your onramping!!
