One of my co-workers got a promotion. Exciting. I took him out to lunch last Friday to celebrate. It was just the two of us.
Today, my co-irker has decided she wants to take co-worker out to lunch as well. But she invited everyone else in the department to go with. And wrote:
"Wouldn?t it be that much nicer if we all go and celebrate with our colleague of 3 years?"
Now I'll feel like a huge *** if I don't go. But I don't *want* to go. I don't want to spend more money on a lunch out when I'm already going out to eat on Thursday. I don't want to go to a burger joint (I'm a vegan) where I'll be forced to eat a side salad and some fruit.
And I'm being a super whiny baby about this.
Do I have to go? Tell me what to do and I'll do it. I just don't wanna....
Re: Ugh. I'm a whiny baby. Tell me to grow a pair
Really? Would you give a reason? Or just decline?

I wouldn't go since you already took him out.
It won't matter to them if you go or not, mostly to him, I would think, and you already paid your due.
How big is your department?
If it is small, I would probably go, to avoid long term awkwardness.
Or just reply to the e-mail saying that since it's such short notice, you can't make it.
There are 10 of us in the department.
I just really can't stand the co-irker who is organizing this. Like flames up the side of my face type of hatred for her.
It's irrational but I feel like she is winning if I don't go. Urgh.

I know where you are coming from, there was a clique betch in my dept that I really didn't mesh well with. I am also cheap and rarely eat out unless it is with people I like to spend time with, so I straight up wouldn't go. I'm here to work, not to make friends and appease people for showing up to optional luncheons. But then again my total dept has 50+ people so it's a bit bigger than yours.

I would just decline. If she pushes it, I would say that you've already taken him to lunch and that you have some catching-up to do.
This. If you already took him out I wouldn't go again.
