Not D&R - recommendations for a vaccuum...
...that isnt a Dyson. I love Dysons, but refuse to spend that much. I have 2 dogs, so something that is good picking up dog hair is a must. Also, something that is easy for cleaning steps - I have a lot of them! Thanks!
Re: Not D&R - recommendations for a vaccuum...
This is one of the questions that is asked about once a month, along with Washer/Dryer rec's.
This is a Nest search: http://global.thenest.com/search/default.aspx?cx=009992541774839403818:5gex8uxgine&cof=FORID:9&ie=UTF-8&q=vaccuum&sa=Search#1143
Click "Community" and you will see tons of posts about Vacuums. I'm sure theres a few of us that have gotten a little tired of responding with the same information so you might not get all the input your looking for.
And for what its worth, I have a Dyson Animal that I love. I got it while BB&B had it on sale and I had a 20% off coupon that brought it down to $250 which is something that I could handle.
I agree. If you can get your hands on a 20% off coupon, they're good on Dysons. I've already informed my H that if we buy a 2 story house that requires vacuuming on both floors, I'm buying a second Dyson.

I find it odd that you can post but can't use the search bar, but alas Google has a feature for that also.

That should show a ton of the vacuum posts so that you can get a lot of the great information that has been posted.
Well, to be fair, last I checked it didn't work. But yes, if you go to google and type in "search topic site:boards.thenest.com" which usually works.
Did they fix the search function?

Honestly even if they were cheaper I'd still say don't get a Dyson. My golden retriever's hair chokes our Dyson Animal whenever I try to use it on berber carpet. Fail.
The search function worked fine for me, typed in Vacuum hit search, clicked community and BAM like 12 pages of posts. Unfortunately there is not a "Let me Nest search that for you"
I have the Hoover Windtunnel Max. Great telescope thing for stairs. I have 5 flights and swear this makes vacuuming stairs easy. Awesome suction too.

Well hot damn! I have tried to use it (not super recently) and it didn't work. It was all "nope, we got better things to do with our resources like add FB and Twitter links to your boards!"

The google thing, takes the same amount of time and is better, but really what would The Nest be if not dysfunctional?
Wow. Crusty much?
It was meant to be funny, obviously you didn't get it. Wasn't making the comments to be mean just trying to get y'all all the information that you can since this post is a common reoccurring one.
I have a Bissell that worked great...I think it is called "Pet Cyclone" or something. Now we have all hardwoods, so I just have some battery Quick Vacs.
Here it is...I really liked the upright canister design. You can use it as an upright, but then pop out the middle canister to vacuum up stairs and stuff. No bags to worry about. The only drawback was the hose was a little short for handheld stuff, but I think it needed that to maintain the crazy level of suction. It had amazing suction...it would pull up a shoe or something if you're not careful.

The Nest must hate me because the search function didn't work for me lol. Oh well. Errors for all!

LOL, maybe its a morning thing? I did it early, now The Nest is napping. Then it'll be lunch time, no searching during lunch. So it might work for a few hours between lunch and another nap. Then you have dinner and baths and bed. That explains it! The Nest is a small child
When our Dyson lost suction at just 2 years old (and because we had DC07 1st gen that had only 1 yr warranty v the 3 yr for current - I'd think they would want to reward those of us that tried them out when they first came out for $450!), we got a simplicity sport and and upright. They're the same price range as Dyson so that may not help u.
I've heard great reviews on the shark and the cyclone pp rec'd.
About the Nest search feature, it doesn't work on our desktop but it works fine on our laptop and my iPhone.
OP, I'm not much help since I have a Kenmore which costs about as much as a Dyson. I do like it but I wish I had a bag less upright instead of a canister with a bag.
