Run with your dog? Pls come in!

Can anyone recommend a hands free leash system that they have used with success? Sacha is a great runner and stays by my side, but I have been sliding the loop of her leash up my arm and then I dont pump my arms correctly. Now I have back pain on one side of my body and that is no bueno!!

  • When I first started running with my dog we used the below and it worked really well.  Luckily, my dog will now stay by my side without a leash so we no longer use it...but it can also be used as a "regular" leash.

  • I like the ruffwear one but I see that some reviews say the leash part is pretty short once you wear it around the waist. Im average size (size 8 pants) do you think that would be a problem for me? I live in the country with two lane roads so Im concerned about having too MUCH leash just as much as too little :)

I saw this one too but it seems too long?? http://www.ruffwear.com/The-Roamer-Leash-trade_5?sc=2&category=15

  • I'm on the smaller side and the length of the leash was fine.  I would guess that with the leash around your waist, it would leave about 3-4 feet of leash for your dog.

Deciding the length of leash all depends on your dog.   The roamer would be fine if your dog is pretty well behaved and won't "lunge" when people and dogs are passing.   For me, I liked having the shorter leash to start of with so I had more control.

  • I have this one. It rocks!! The only thing I don't like about it is that the waist part rides up on me so it sits up almost under my boobs, but I have no torso so thats why. Its awesome tho, you can even switch the stretchy leash part around so that the end w/the handle on it is close to you or closer to your dog (I think it varies on personal preference)

Oh, Im also about a size 8/10 pants & had no problem fitting this on me, not too tight, & plenty of room to go bigger. The leash part stretches out to the perfect length for us, not too long, not too short. & the bungee aspect is money, no leash draggin on the ground when we stop!

  • Hi there,

I'm more of a lurker, but thought I'd chime in.  We use a leash by TimberWolf pet products that can adjust to go around your waist and readjust to become a regular leash again.  Bonus is that it has a traffic handle and is made of climbing cable so my super chewing pit doesn't even make a dent in it.

Here is the link to their site, the one we use is the first one, the American lead, not sure why but you can't see the traffic handle on that one.  Sorry I don't know how to make it clicky.
