Dh and I are in the process of selecting granite and countertops for our bathrooms and kitchens. We went with the builder last night but now I'm doing some second guessing.
Are the cabinets in your kitchens and bathrooms all the same color or are they different? We selected different granite for the different rooms and different colored cabinets for the hall bath. The kitchen and master bath will have the same color cabinets. The style of the cabinets is the same though.
Re: Kitchen and bathrooms
My kitchen and the 2 mainfloor baths are the same. I like the cohesive look and love what we picked so I ran with it. Our basement bath has black cabinets but they don't make I have on the main level anymore so we just went completely different.
I'm such a mix and match girl that I like the big things to be the same.
My countertops are different though. My kitchen is black and the baths are tan kind of granite looking.
Ours are all different. They are all separate rooms so I think it's fine.
In our old condo they all matched. I think it really made them look builder basic -they weren't great quality, which didn't help. In our current home nothing matches and I actually like this look better. The rooms are all different spaces why should they look the same?
I agree the kitchen and bathrooms are different rooms, so they can have different looks, but do not agree the cabinets need to be the same style. I have an old house that was built in the 1940's and things have been updated at different times and by different owners.
Do what makes you happy, it's your house. If you want everything to be the same style or color, do it. If you want some variety, do it. I think the only time you need to worry about matching styles or color is if you have an open concept. But I doubt a bathroom would in the open.
We just built our house and did not use the same cabs or granite. I didn't want a 'builder' cookie cutter look but that's personal preference/opinion.
Our powder room has a similar feel as kitchen. The kids jack/Jill bathroom has matching individual vanities. The laundry room has a basic white cabs. The guest bath and bar/kitchenette in lower level are very similar so much that someone might think they were the same. The master is all of its own but when we get around to built in closet storage we would use same as master bath.
Aside from kitch I was able to select high end granite remnants for low grade a granite price at our builders supplier for baths/bar
We have the same cabinets in the kitchen and DHs office and the laundry room, for not other reason than I like the door style so I went with it. The color in DHs office is a cherry though where the kitchen and laundry room are a java color.
Cabinets in the Master bathroom are different style, same feel, but dark like the kitchen.
I ended up bringing in a different contractor to supply the granite in the kitchen because the builder we were using couldn't match the price I found. We put the standard granite in the Master, but I will eventually change it out to marble and keep the cabinets.
All the other bathrooms have the same white cabinets/countertops. It was easier for me to decorate those rooms with the white vanities and chances are they'll be changed out anyway.
