I may have a new idea for dogs scared of thunder...
My 7 y.o. male Chihuahua had been scared of thunder for years. He used to low-crawl around and shake until it was long gone. The thundershirt was helpful, but he still got very nervous. Fast-forward to the last few months. I decided that I would leave music playing in their (I have a room just for the dogs) room while I was away at work during the day. Well, I used to be a huge Enya fan back in high school, so I pulled out all of my old CDs. It just so happens that on Watermark, there's a song called, "Storms in Africa," which opens with the sound of thunder and rain. Well, I just put 2 and 2 together not long ago when I noticed that my chi is pretty chilled out now during storms...he just chews on his toys and doesn't shake anymore. I'm thinking that after listening to this CD on repeat for weeks at a time (yes, I do swap them out on occasion), he's used to hearing thunder now. It's not very scientific, but if you're looking for ideas, that's my new suggestion. Good luck!!
