We're moving next month, and just based on pictures online, I've kind of started decorating in my head. In the living room, there's either going to be brown carpet or brown tile. Our couch is a light, sandy brown and our entertainment center is brown. Obviously I need to brighten it up! I plan on painting the walls a light blue, and am going to make a chevron rug in the same shade of blue. I want to make a wall painting like this:

I want to add something else to the paintings, but what could I add? I was thinking of adding "last name est. 2012" or something, or maybe just three different quotes. Any ideas?
Re: Help me with my vision!!
Iwouldn't do words as it is already a busy pattern. How about some white sillhouettes of you or your pets?
Ohh that's an option! I think I agree with you about the words, I don't want it get too crowded.
I'm also considering just getting shelves in front of them, like this: 54254370480455790_8UrcZJW5_f.jpg and putting pretty things on it.
I would not do three shelves with three identical pieces of art standing on them. I would do one, but not 3.
If you are set on doing 3 canvases in the chevron, you need to hang them very close together so they "read" as one giant piece of artwork.
Maybe just one then! A big one, though. The apartment has a huuuuge wall.
I also like this: 151785449910698150_pfD8w2DE_f.jpg with blue and white stripes and the other walls just plain blue, but do you think that's too busy? Ours wouldn't have a cluster of artwork, but IDK what we would do. Maybe just a mantel? Urggh.
A chevron rug and chevron paintings is a bit much...especially when everything else is brown or solid colored. A chevron wall with the rug would be way too much. Think about mixing different patterns and keep in mind that different size/scale, texture and color makes a more interesting and more balanced space.
The rug would be more interesting if it was not the same shade of blue as wall. One shade darker on the paint chip, or a slightly different shade of blue that complements the wall color would work better than an exact match.
Do you have any art at all? Anything meaningful that you could maybe mat or mount on something larger to help it make more of a statement?
If you are going to do diy wall decor, it should be about something that means something to you, not just something to fill space. Otherwise just wait until you find the perfect piece to put there or the perfect inspiration for a diy piece.
When we were starting out and were super broke, we used things all kinds of things that were not necessarily meant to be wall decor as wall decor.
At different times over the years we have used large flat baskets, rugs, fabric on stretcher bar....and various things found at garage sales and thrift stores. It helped me develop a knack for seeing different ways to use things, which has been really helpful in my work (costume and theatre work), in my art, and in decorating my house.
I thought about doing fabric, too! I'll have to see what works best.
I really like this one! http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Flowers-Hand-painted-Oil-on-Canvas-Set-of-3/4107304/product.html
