New update to Did I Do The Right Thing ...
I FB msg both the roomate who called and the mutual friend saying I wasn't comfortable with the situation and wouldn't be sending money. Just got a msg from the mutual friend saying she wish she had checked FB earlier and was worried she was being scammed but decided to have faith and sent money. She wants to know what the friend told me. I told her I'd call her when I land. I have a feeling the friend pitted us against each other or told the friend I would pay her back if she sent money....
This all makes me sad. The friend, while flaky wasn't this much of a screw up when I knew her.

Ummm...you don't know anyone any money. You are being scammed. We wish you'd listen to us!
Edited: sorry! I thought you said you were going to payback the friend that sent the money. Glad you didn't give them any $$! Such a classic scam...

I don't normally go on TN, but I felt I MUST comment here.
I read back over your previous threads about this situation and honestly, it sounded very similar to something I had read earlier. A few people on TB have had this happen recently.
Basically, someone's account gets hacked on FB. They have access to all their personal details. Then they send their friends an emergency thread or e-mail, claiming they need the money asap. Usually it is someone stuck in a foreign country, but other times it is for medical treatment.

That should connect you to FB and their response to people having problems with the phishing scheme.
I hope everything is okay with your friend, but until you get further information from your friend that is supposedly sick, do not send any money. There are way too many scans out there.
this reminds me so much of a similar situation i was in last year. I had a classmate that i was friendly with, email me asking me for money for something serious too, she asked me to western union it to her immediately.......i declined. Ran into her ex H few months later and turns out he left her due to her ever growing drug addiction......sounds very similar to your situation
Good luck

She actually spoke to this "friend" on the phone. That makes this whole thing even more sad. Obviously it's a scam & rather than being a hacking thing, it is, in fact the actual friend doing the scamming.
Sorry, Taffy. This whole thing has been weird and sucky.
