Do you ever get D&R'd out?
I would love to have a 'finished' house. I probably never will.
In the less-than-five years DH and I have been together, we've done four major, months long renovations (kitchen & bath in house 1 - both demo'd down to the studs & rebuilt; basement and hallway/bathroom additions in house 2), on top of the smaller projects - building a shed, D-ing a nursery, carpet installation, replacing doors etc, etc, etc.
I know a lot of this is just par for the course with home ownership. But I feel so burnt out from the constant projects.
How do you keep D&R-ing without running out of gas / inspiration?

For two people in a marriage to live together day after day is unquestionably the one miracle the Vatican has overlooked.

Re: Do you ever get D&R'd out?
I don't. I did pretty much jack for most of 2011. I'm on a D&R spurt now, but it'll be finite.
I tend to get bummed thinking too hard about D&R when there's no D&R money in the budget, too. So I tend to alternate my focus between D&R, travel, sports, etc.
Yes.
Currently.
In the middle of a very messy half-finished project.
H is not real happy with me at the moment.
I am also pretty much D&R'd out but still come here because it's "home". We D&R overhauled our last home and had pretty much gotten to where we wanted to be and then decided to move. Our new home is new so it doesn't need a whole lot of D&R. I am focusing on outside this year.
But like others, if I had more D&R money and also a lot more time, I might be more focused on it.
This. Word for word!
Yes and No.
I love to plan and seach Pinterest and TheNest for ideas but very few projects actually get finished. We've finished our major renovations (tile floors, redone half & full baths, new appliances) but now we need to paint and finish with the little stuff but the motivation is running low. I know the house isn't going any where but I would like things finished yesterday so we can enjoy our home instead of constantly having my mind racing with ideas!
I enjoy D&R, but rarely have the time or money to make a lot of changes or do a big reno, so we just do things when we can and spend the rest of the time just living in our house the way it is and enjoying it and life in general.
I have no expectation of living in perfection or being 'done', and that's the way I like it. I have so many ideas and I like change, so I expect our home to evolve over time and actually never be completely finished. Not unless I was dead. My brain is just wired to enjoy the process.
This is sort of the zen place I've got to as well. I'm not going to lie, when we bought our house and started living in it the number of projects I thought we had to do to make it "home" depressed me. Now I'm realizing that slow and steady is the way to go and nothing will ever be done.
We tend to not do a lot in the winter, mostly b/c of the holidays and it's cold, so that is when we plan, budget and really figure out what we want.
Our last big remodel was our master suite and I think we realized just how stressful it can be and how thankful we are that we rarely have to bring in paid contractors (yay for a friend being a contractor who will come help for pizza and beer).
