let's talk kitchen sinks and faucets

what kind do you have? where did you purchase them?

I'm in the beginning stages of trying to figure out what kind of sink I want (single or double basin), what material (SS or cast iron) and what brand.

I'm also looking at faucets. this is the style I want:

but not sure on brand. this particular one has 5 stars, but only 3 reviews.

any good online places to buy?

I like the style you posted. We have a version of that style in 2 bathrooms.

Our kitchen has this; I love the pull-down sprayer:

We have a double basin standard SS sink.  I like the double basin but would prefer if we'd opted for deeper basins.

The kitchen sink and most of our bathrooms are Price Pfister. Middle quality but I have no complaints. Two of our bathrooms have Gerber faucets and I like those also.

The builder put in Moen faucets and I was not a fan.

  • I got a large, 31 inch 16 gauge stainless steel one bowl sink of Ebay for $99 and free shipping.

I got a $300 Delta faucet on Amazon for $120 on clearance, plus free prime shipping.

ETA: My faucet looks just like the posters above, except the handle to turn the faucet on is a separate pieces just like the soap dispenser is. It will be mounted straight to the granite so I won't need that ugly flat trim piece.

  • I love a pull-down sprayer, too. I would never choose a separate sprayer. And the one that the OP posted is nice but too detailed for me in terms of aesthetics and cleaning!!!

  • Sink - ours is a Blanco double basin (60/40 split) in a dark charcoal/almost black.  I absolutely love it.  It is an undermount and most of the granite contractors that we were quoting use these sinks.  It was roughly $400 but doesn't stain or scratch.  It's easy to clean with bleach and doesn't discolor.  It's much deeper than my last sink and I've had several people comment how much they love it.

Faucet - we went with a Moen.  I have no idea the style but we got it at Lowes for roughly $175.  It doesn't really look like the one you pictured though.  No problem with the Moen brand though. DH said it was easy to install.

  • We have a single basin stainless steel sink we got for free w our countertops.

Our faucet looks like that but has 2 handles plus a side spray an was something like $99 at home depot.  So far so good.

we currently have a Delta faucet with the pull-down sprayer, and I really don't use it that much, so I don't think I'll miss it.

thanks for the replies everyone. has anyone heard of or have Ticor or Vigo brand sinks? I think one of the hardest things I'm trying to choose between is whether to go to a single basin, or keep the double basin (which we have now). I use the small side for clean dishes, and I guess the single basin would force me to actually dry dishes right away. I might miss having the double basin.

DH's aunt has the nicest faucets in her house.  I think she has Vigo and Grohe.

  • We have 2 sinks in the kitchen; both are Blanco, one is 32" single basin and the other is 22". Faucets are both pulldown Hansgrohe. We got the faucet at a great price from faucetdirect.com.

Hmmm....no I am wondering if DH's aunt has Grohe or Hansgrohe.  Whatever she has was expensive and has lasted really well....much better than anything we've gotten at HD or Lowes.

  • We have a Blanco single bowl it's huge, deep, and awesome - it doesn't scratch or chip.
  • I could not live without a pull down sprayer.

I hate the soap dispensers that are built in.  If I was putting in my own sink I would do one without the extra sprayer/soap hole.

I have a double bowl sink right now, with one large side and 1 small side.  Having the large side is nice, but it doesn't have the garbage disposer.  I want to wash dishes in the large size, but then I have to empty the gunk out of the drain 50 times.  HATE.  But maybe you can get that kind with the disposal in the big side?

We had a double sink in our last house and I liked it much better.  Also, SS all the way.

  • We have a 33" SS farmhouse sink that I bought on Overstock.com. It's by Kraus and it got amazing reviews.  I love the way it looks, but haven't had it long enough to comment on how long it will hold up.  The plumber and the contractors did comment on the quality though.

I love having one deep, massive sink.  I load everything into a dishwasher so I never saw the need for two sides and I like that this one is large enough to soak my oven racks
