Can anyone help me with woods for furniture?
Or have a website they can give me??
I'm looking into purchasing nice new wood furniture for my master bedroom and would like some input as to what woods are better and which are best to avoid.
I found a four piece set I really like the look of for $1500 on clearance, but it's made of Oak and Ash solids and veneers. Is this bad?? I found other sets that are more expensive and I don't like quite as much that are made of walnut and then cherry, are these better?
Any advice on what I listed or where to look for information would be appreciated!
Re: Can anyone help me with woods for furniture?
The looking at GOOGLE that I did says that solid oak is heavy, sturdy, and very good both for structures and for furniture.

Check out this link also.
However, I'm not sure about veneers as that's just layers of the good stuff probably laid over cheaper, weaker stuff.
Veneer does not necessarily mean bad. Good furniture craftsmen have been using veneers for hundreds of years.
I know that bit of information isn't going to tell you whether or not the set that you are looking at is good...just something to consider.
Maple is very soft. Steer clear of that.
And it depends on how the furniture is constructed as well. Are the drawers dovetail or simply nailed together?
Is the furniture solid wood or particle board (or some other pressed wood)
I was recently turned on to World Market by nesties for there reasonable prices and solid wood. WM furniture receives good reviews all around. So far I've been very please with the items. One cabinet arrived damaged and they shipped another right away. Customer service was top notch. The furniture is beautiful but of course that depends on your taste.
