I want a vacation... (A vent of sorts)

... and no, honey that doesn't mean that I want to go see my family in Colorado. I want a real vacation, with a beach and a margarita with extra tequila.

This semester has been kind of brutal for us. So in May DH wants to go somewhere to relax. But he wants to go DRIVE to Colorado to do it. I shouldn't be so offended, because I love Colorado, but going to see family does not count as a relaxing vacation to me. He really just wants to go out there to see one of his close friends, but tried to sell it to me by playing the guilt card, "but you never know how many chances you will get to see your mom." So he gets to go out and have fun with his friends and ride motorcycles in the Mountains, and I get stuck with my dad and sister seeing my mom who (because of her disease) is showing signs of dementia. Awesome, that will make me feel so relaxed. I am not even going to mention the stress that driving all the way out there will cause.

Bad idea, honey, bad idea.

  • Come see me!

And I agree that is not a vacation. You two need to get away from everything and just have you time. Hugs B!

  • Seeing family =/= vacation. At least in my book!!!

I would try and drive and take a two day detour to somewhere fun at the halfway mark and then spend the rest of the vacation with family. Win-win.

  • We literally ALWAYS visit family on vacation. He finally decided on a REAL vacation when he gets home from deployment (mostly because his family makes him angry which isn't exactly a good thing...ugh).

Swing through PA on your way! :D

Yeah, I'd stop a couple places, or a place for a couple nights so you can do both.

  • That's a sh*tty card to play!

You definitely deserve a relaxing vacation.  Tell him he can go to Colorado and you'll go down the shore and stay at a spa for a long weekend.

  • I agree 150% that going home to visit family is NOT a vacation. We just tried this and it turned into a week (we cut it short and actually came home a week early because I couldn't handle it) of everyone not only fighting over our time as usual but also biitching and making smartass remarks about our move to Guam this year.

Go to a beach. Sit under an umbrella and have fabulous drinks, read books, sunbathe, etc. Plan another trip to go home to visit that doesn't have the expectation of relaxing considering the stressful situation.
