Runners: Newtons?

Does anyone use Newton shoes and if so, what are your thoughts on them?  I'm considering trying them out.  I just wanted to get some feedback from people who have actually used them.

Re: Runners: Newtons?

  • No, but I'm really curious about them! Did you read the article about the design and the company in Runner's World last month (or the month before)?

    I love them!

Yes.  I have been wanting to try them since I read that.  I am nervous about spending the money on something I have never tried out, though.

  • I've been running in them since about August of 2010 and I absolutely love them.

Before that I wore the Saucony Guide shoes (which I still rotate in on occasion), but I tried on the Newtons one day at my LRS and just fell in love with them.  They were soooo light compared to my Sauconys.

So I got them and I will continue to get them.  You need to give yourself a little time to adjust to them at first, my calves and ankles were really sore after the first couple of runs, but it didn't take long to adjust.

Just a side note, I first bought them to train and wear for my first full marathon.  I ran the race in them, and had absolutely no foot pain whatsoever during or after the race (now my legs were killing me, but that's besides the point!)  Anyway, during my second full, I wore my Sauconys and my feet were totally killing me at the end.  I don't know if it was just coincidence or not, but now I do all my long runs and races in my Newtons.

ETA: Oh, and the price is steep, but totally worth it IMO.  Occasionally they have them on sale on roadrunnersports.com or on runninwarehouse.

Thanks for the post! I've been running in Saucony Kinvaras and the Brooks Pure Connect for a while now. Thankfully I haven't butted up against any distance issues in the Brooks like you've seen, but I just don't know if I want to fork out the $$ for Newtons when the other two (especially the Kinvaras) work well for me.

They are quite expensive!  I only purchase them when I get 20% off promotions from RoadRunner Sports.  Speaking of which, I just got a promotion in my email today...I may have to purchase another pair :)

  • I tried them out the other day at my LRS and I REALLY wanted to like them but I found that the lugs were not in the place on my forefoot where I normally strike. Did anyone who converted find this issue? If so did you adjust and find it to be non-issue after a while?

  • I read the RW article too and really want to try them!
